Whats the youngest age that babies can leave mum? I know that any boars need seperating by 3 weeks but is there a minimum age or should it be 3 weeks ideally?

Thanks in advance

I've read that in wild they are naturally weaned at 2 wheeks (Cooper and Schiller), I take my boys out at 4 wheeks and the girls usually stay in but it depends on Mum. I will always nearly have an adult in with her to make things easier. Some Mums seem to naturally chase their daughters away and when they do this I take them out. I've had some sows that really bonded with their daughters though and were rehomed with them.

ok thanks.

I've got some babies coming into the rescue. They are 14 days old now. They are coming over tomorrow with mum so that I can sex them. The owner is keeping mum and any sows and I'm going to rehome the boars.

I just didn't want to seperate them too soon

I separated the boars at 3 weeks, and then left the girls in until they were ready to be re-homed. :)

I had to separate a boar from his mum at a week old and hand fed him. He didn't seem to suffer any setbacks at all and accepted other piggies better than his sisters (maybe a coincidence or maybe because I'd tamed him so early). Out of choice I would go for 2-3 weeks to avoid any unwanted pregnancies.

The babies came today! They were so cute, Ive never seen mini pigs before.

I sexed them, there were 3 of them, 2 girls and 1 boy. It was quite easy actually.

I've now got the baby boar, he's 2 weeks old. The owners are going to keep the baby sows permenantly with mum.

My son has called him Rolo, he's chocolate brown and white and so gorgeous! :D

I hope I've done the right thing but I've put him with my 8 month old boar Gus. I introduced them on neutral territory and they're now in the cage together. I just didn't want him to be on his own after being seperated from mum and his sisters.

Gus did a bit of rumbling at him but was soon letting the baby snuggle up to him, it was so sweet. They've got a hidey house and I checked on them earlier and Rolo was stood on top of Gus's back! ;D ;D

So Rolo is staying as a permantent member of our family. ;)

ETA: I'll get some piccys when they're settled

awwwwww :smitten: He sounds cute cant wait to see him ;) :D
