Hello everyone. I really need some help. Thor has a bladder infection when going to the toilet. And the vet gave him baytril once daily @ 0.5ml. There was no change so been back today and I menchioned septrin. The vet said its worth a try and given me the dosage 1/10 th of a tablet. Mixed with water. Twice daily for 5days. Does anyone know if this sounds right? Thank u in advance to anyone who can help.

I've only ever given Septrin in the liquid form (which is a human kids medicine). The dose will depend on the strength of the tablet, so I can't really help with that. Did the vet say how to mix with water? I would have thought you'd have to mix a tablet with say 10ml of water and then give the pig 1ml of the mixture at a time to be anywhere near accurate. It might be worth ringing the vet to see if they could get the liquid form, or give you a prescription to take to the chemist.

I have given septrin tablets before - but they can exist in several different formulations.
Just to be sure, can you please
a) put up all the writing on the bottle - including the concentrations in mg of both Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim (if mentioned)
b) state the weight of your piggie
Many thanks

I was thinking how tricky it would be making up 1/10th of a tablet but Elwickcavies posted a really sensible suggestion. We have only ever had the ready made stuff with its sickly banana flavour.

I'm so happy. After 3 weeks of baytril and septrin and pain relief, thor seems to have fight the infection or maybe passed a stone. Lasy night he seemed to be squeeking a little more that he had been. And this morning. Touch wood! Nothing. I think all the good advise off you guys on here reallly helped. And would reccomend plenty of cucumber, Barley water and less nuggets, as I think that has flushed his system out. Now time for a low calcium diet. :) so happy
