I went to the vets yesterday with 2 of my piggies as their eyes were cloudy and bulging. They have cateracts, he gave me some drops but said that they probably wont help and hes going to give them 10 days to see what happens but it doesnt look good. :'(

I would check out this site. There seems to be a lot on various eye conditions.

Sorry i can't be any more help but the only eye problems I have experienced are when they have got a bit of hay lodged in the eye and its caused an ulcer.

What is your vet suggesting if the drops don't work? I am sure something can be done. Is he sure they have cataracts? I have just read this on the site I have suggested you look at:-

Protruding eyes can indicate an abscess, elongated roots, or other problem. An x-ray can often help diagnose these conditions. Conjunctivitis, foreign items stuck behind the eye, dry eye, ulcers, and tumors can be the cause of a swollen eye. Often eye infections or damage will result in a general cloudiness of the entire eye. Watery eyes may be the result of a plugged tear duct.

I hope your piggies can get some help for this problem xx

Agree with Debbie (furryfriends). My Guin has a cataract/opaque eye and no amount of eye drops will make it any better. Not that I've had any for him.

But strongly suggest that your vet looks more into it, as you say they bulge. Guin's does not.

Best of luck

Thanks just looking at that website now, yes they are really bulging not like a usual cloudy eye with straw or something stuck in it that I've experienced before with other pigs.

Fatty eye perhaps? That makes the eye bulge

it doesnt look like fatty eye, the whole eye seems to be sticking out. One piggy has it in both eyes, and the other in just one.

Maybe like Debbie said then, an abscess/tumour/lump behind the eye itself? A rodentologist is your best bet for this :)

my first quincey had this and had an op to remove his eye but he died a few days later, both of them makes it more likely its not a tumour unless you are very unlucky one of my girls muffin has a white patch on her eye has had it years and my vet said its not worth doing anything as she was well and nothing could be done anyway,

there is no change today, maybe I should try washing the eyes out incase there is something stuck in them? Ive had a really good look and theres nothing obvious. Its also very difficult to see in them as they both have pink eyes.
