I had a call from the vets earlier regarding his visit yesterday. After conferring with a vet at The Grove we've been prescribed another antibiotic to try (I don't remember which one but I'll update when we pick it up tomorrow). Over the phone it sounded a bit like this could be an ongoing condition that we treat when it flares up, however no one actually knows what's wrong and I can't find anything similar anywhere online.

Symptoms: Stinky (cream cheese consistancy) discharge from his anus, discomfort and as of this evening, pain toileting.

I feel like we're fighting an invisible demon and I can't see how we can cure him if we don't know what it is. I've spoken about scans and cultures with the vet but she doesn't think that a scan would show anything and that she could do a culture but it probably won't be viable as there would be a lot of bacteria due to the area and it's likely we won't get anything from it.

Tonight during his cuddle with his favourite human he let out these heart breaking shrieks, tensed his whole body and did an almighty wee on her followed immediately by some poos shooting out. His wee looked very yellow to me but he's not had carrots or any high coloured foods lately, it didn't smell of anything.

Has anyone ever heard of ANYTHING similar to this? This is all stemming from that bloody butcher who neutered him and I wish I could wring her neck for what she's done to him! :(

I really could cry right now, I just want him to be healthy and I'm feel so out of control like I can't help him :(

HUGS! I am so sorry; something is obviously blocking the exit.

Please hang on in there and be strong for Iggy. There is nothing more upsetting than feeling helpless in the face of suffering. :(

Thank you so much, it's so upsetting that he's in pain and I don't even know where to start with it all :(

What could be blocking it? Like a bladder stone or something? Could it be on top of the infection or the infection itself?

Does his wee look wrong to you?

Have you ever seen/heard of anything like this before? My ultimate fear is that it's lasting damage from his neuter, but I guess we can't find out unless he goes under the knife to investigate and I'm so frightened for him :(

I am really sorry Iggy and you are going through this. Massive hugs to you x

Has your new vet given you a scan?

No we haven't had a scan, she said it's likely we won't see anything in that area?

Is it worth having one anyway? I'm worried about him being sedated, possibly irrationally as I fear that because he's really poorly he won't take it well?

I'm not sure what we're even looking for :/

I am very sorry, but I cannot help you; it is down to a good vet to figure that one out!

Having nearly lost Hywel to rare post-op complications (the op was done by the rescue's vet of choice although paid for by me), I can understand how awful you are feeling. Hywel ended up with a band of swelling at the back of testicle area adhering to the gut (which is extremely painful) and nearly died from it, but his symptoms were different.

I hope that you can pull Iggy through this. Could urine colour come from the new AB? I would not worry too much about the colour. Continue syringe feeding and offering water.

Thank you, I understand. I'm just grasping at straws I think. The frustrating thing is that it must be over 6 months since he was neutered and he's only had a very short period of relative peace from any issues.

Poor Hywel! I'm glad he pulled through it. I might as about swelling ask it could be happening through infection? I don't know.

He's not had the new antibiotic yet, we're picking it up tomorrow hopefully with some more metacam as I haven't got much left. Luckily he's drinking as normal and eating pretty well as far as I can tell but I keep weighing him.

Go with what your vet says. I am just thinking out loud. Hope the new AB's make a difference. What dose Metacam is he on?

I trust my vet don't get me wrong, but if there's anything else I can try that she's not suggested then I'm all for it.

He's been on 0.3mls twice daily on and off since he's come to me.

i completely understand maybe worth talking about again after trying the new AB's.

Good dose, dogs metacam I take it?

Oh poor Iggy and poor you, you must be so worried about him! Hopefully the new AB will make him more comfortable. I hope you and your vet work out what is wrong with him! Sending loads of hugs your way as you obviously need them.:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:If I lived closer I come over and give you hugs in person! xx

Yea definitely, I might request it even if he's feeling a bit better because it keeps coming back there must be more than meets the eye.

Yep dog, never been given the cat version thankfully.

Would he be okay on a 2-3 hour car journey do you reckon? I don't know how I'd do it and I know he hates cars but if I can't get to the bottom of this soon I'll just have to find a way to get him to Simon. Even then I don't know if he'll know what's going on... I just can't bear the thought of him going through this again and again.

Thanks Betsy, even virtual hugs help!

I'm very worried, even though he wasn't planned he's very much my baby. With him being poorly I'm a protective mother! In the vets a little girl asked if she could pet him and I said no :)) Felt mean but he doesn't need extra germs XD

Poor little Iggy :(
Sorry that I can't help you with this any further than offering a massive hug . Get well soon little man x

Sending extra hugs! Sorry to hear Iggy is not well, its worrying enough when theres something wrong, but when youre not even sure what it is its awful :( I hope the new antibiotics help sort out whatever is going on.

Yes the not knowing is even worse, I'm just listening to him cry tonight and it's hard to take :(

I hope so, I just wish I knew what we were battling here!

We all do Cavy we are all with you on this!

Thank you, it means so much!

I had a little weep earlier when someone suggested euthanasia... So it's wonderful to have people who understand and are here for us! He's fighting so I am too. Right now he's having a little rumblestrut at the girlies so I don't think he's as worried as me!

oh my you and Iggy are going throu a bad time. I can't say anymone than what's been said. But you doing great with the little guy. Try be strong for him. Sending you both massive hugs. xxxxx

I’m so sorry that’s awful. Personally having spoken to Simon myself this evening I would try to work out how to get there or how to get your vet to talk to him.

When you say scan do you mean ultrasound? My vet does my older ones without sedation - however they are so laid back as to be horizontal.

BLess the wee man. Great he’s feeling well enough to show off to his girls. Dreadful you are both going through this particularly when he cries out with the pain. Don’t know what else to suggest as you are obviously doing all you can. Hugs to you both. Xx

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the support! :hug:X

My vet didn't speak to him which was a bit annoying. She called a woman from her old practice that I realised last night is a vet I've had a bad experience with so I'm less happy than I was about it all.

Yes I have asked about ultrasounds, I was told however that there is too much in there to actually see anything. I don't know how true that is.

As he's known for being a wee bitey I don't know how they'd feel about that. I'd be more than happy to hold him though, I know what he's like :))

I’ve just seen your thread. I do think it would be worth a second opinion if the new ABs don’t work. Poor Iggy x

What is the new antibiotic that you are trying?

I'm just wondering if you could discuss with your vet about - could it be a post neuter abscess that's more internal than close to the surface at present, or possibly near the wall of his back passage? does he have any lumps near the neuter site or generally on his groin, stomach, rear end areas, etc? It sounds like Post neuter abscesses can take a few months sometimes to show, so there is a possibility he's been unlucky with this.

I've just had a girl with a facial abscess & we used the 'Zithromax' antibiotic for about 3 weeks & then surgery to remove what was left - the vet was very pleased with the result, her face is now normal shape, no hole, healing nicely, etc & the hair has grown back a few millimetres already.

Healing vibes & speedy recovery to your little man

luv the girls & I. xx

We're sending more love and hugs to Iggy and yourself. Both of you keep your chins up. :)

Good luck.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, both of you. I have no experience in boars, so no suggestions to offer, sorry. I just wanted to send you both lots of love.
