My pig felt a tad warm so I took her termperature. It said 97.4 but that doesn't make sense, she would feel cold right? I took again and it was 99.9. It doesnt make sense still. She is running around and eating and happy. I feel I am not taking her temperature right. Could that be the issue? She isn't really warm anymore either. I called the vet and they said to bring her in but like I said I feel I'm not taking the temperature properly. It was a vet assistant who said to bring her in as well.

I’ve never taken my piggie’s temperature so can’t tell you. Was it particularly warm in the room or cage?

Hi!

Make sure that your phone is cool when you take a temperature. Please be aware that fever in guinea pigs is rare. I've had it happen only once in donkey's years and with over 70 piggies and we haven't seen more than a handful of cases, if that, in nearly 15 years on the forum. So nothing to worry about.

If possible, try to keep the room temperature around 20 C; guinea pigs are doing best in the same range as humans. Guinea pigs regulate their body temperature via the increased air flow in the ears and paws. If they feel cool, then they are not overheated. If they feel warm, then they are busy shedding heat via the increased blood flow in the skin.

But you need to keep an eye on them during heat waves and heat spikes; they can die from heatstroke in warm/hot weather. But in that case, the are very apathetic and caked to the floor. More information in this guide here; better bookmark it for the next summer.
