My guinea pig wont allow herself to be groomed and it ends up me having to hold her and then she tries to bite me afterwards when I'm done, I tried bribing her with goodies but she just stresses up loads. I dont know what to do, she has long fur so I cant leave the grooming be. And neither do I want an aggressive guinea pig. Afterwards she gets terrified I will groom her again and jumps to bite me. I seriously dont know what to do. Anything just resembling grooming makes her go bananas:(

if i have any pigs like that come in to rescue i tend to cut all there hair off... saves stressing the pig out...
just a thought... :)

The way it is I am terrified of cutting her hair off (and I am a hairdresser and cut a few animals hair off as well) as would be terrified the scissors hurt her. She just stresses out so much:( I hate this:( I really dont know what to do, I dont want to neglect my piggy's furcare because she is getting stressed out neither do I dare to get her fur cut:( Although maybe that's what she needs?

I would just cut her hair as it stresses her so much. Maybe you can get somebody to hold her while you do it. It is not worth her having long hair if she cannot tolerate it being brushed. It will get matted and hurt her.

What breed is she...?
Shelties and Coronets are pretty low maintenence coat wise... if shes a peruvian or marino etc... then they are high maintenence...

If you were close to me i'd happily trim her up for you... i offer piggie grooming and nail trimming through the rescue...

i think it might be best to trim her up...

start by her bottom and work your way up and then turn her over and do the long bits underneath... if you can get someone to help hold her it would make your life easier...

:)

Underneath shes quite fine luckily, kinda short hair, but on the back and front she has quite long fur, around 4-5 cm of fur I would guess. Unfortunately I dont live in UK:( Have been looking for trimmers but they all seem to be for dogs here:(

thats a shame....
i just use normal scissors... I've got one that needs a trim soon too...
I'll do him tonight and try and video it so i can show you the technique... :)
its just something you'll get more confident with practice... :)

Oh thats so nice of you! I cut a friend's of mine peruvian guinea pig and shes a nervous one but she isnt even close to mine, i suppose it makes it harder when they are babies and more "moveable" or what to call it. It went fine cutting the peruvians fur but nervous about my wee girl's fur.
I really appreciate your effort in helping me out and I think it will help me loads to see how you do it. Thank you so much!

When I got my two long haired girls I was told the easiest time to trim their hair is in the bath as it is easier to see how much there is to trim. My sheltie girl Maggie was a pain to groom as she would dance away from the comb when it went near her bum. Now that I have given her enough of a trim she doesn't get so tangled so doesn't mind being groomed so much. I make sure I go slowly to not stress her out. Good luck

I hold mine with their bum in my hand, thumb and little finger around the outside of their legs, and my other three fingers inside their legs...to splay them and allow easy access to boy and lady bits areas :) Then sit down and roll their bodies in towards your belly, so that their body is stretched across your arm, then you can hold them securely against you and trim between their legs

for their top coat have someone else hold the pig and just hack off what you can rolleyes ...I hold mine over a binbag and do it one handed...but that takes a lot of practice :)

I hold mine like this when I trim their nails as well :) they're much more secure.
