so with the hot days expected over the next week, i am obviously considering getting the girls outside in a run..

how is the best way to do this? set up the run in the shade and cover with a blanket? what temperature is okay for them to be put out in?should i have a thermometer in there? we have no grass so ill be using an indoor cage from pets at home as a temporary measure, i thought this would be better than a c&c style run. i just want back up incase it gets too hot in the summer house for them to be in there! i will line it with newspaper and the bedding they are on. any other tips / advice please?

When I used to put mine on the grass (can't now we've moved because of foxes) I used to put a blanket over the top to help protect them from the sun (and the sparrowhawks and buzzards!). When they'd eaten all the grass I put them on an old duvet on the patio which I washed every couple of days again the run was always covered with a blanket.

so i only have a plastic pets @ home type cage to put them in essentially if the shed gets too hot, on a stand thing in the garden. was going to just line it with news paper and the floor stuff i have for them in the hutch. then put a blanket over them. i suppose i need to make sure its a extremely shaded place though!

Yes it would need to be shaded. They can’t be in it when it is 25 or more though.
Also consider heater breezes which can raise the temperature in a run or cage like this more than the outside temperature would suggest

Hot Weather Management, Heat Strokes and Fly Strike

okay i may have to put it on the floor, i was just worried about rats etc as we have a river behind us! okay so is that when the ‘live’ temperature like on weather app says 25, or should i have a thermometer in the place where the pigs outdoor run would be? ill take some pics tomorrow of how I'm thinking of setting it up!
