Settled piggies

So having had my two 12 week old girls since Wednesday (6 nights), I’ve been doing all I can to settle them in. As a 1st time owner I’ve been doing extensive research to get this right!

Anyway, last night I saw a you tube video which gave me a lot of reassurance that they have settled in well :clap:

They are...

* Eating and drinking (very) well.
* Coming out of the cage when we’re around.
* Not running away when we get a little closer.
* If they do get spooked they recover quickly and peep their heads out of their hideouts before coming out again.
* Chatty.
* Playful, chasing round in evening.

All good signs I believe! I’m just sooo pleased that they’re happy here with us. We had 10 mins handling time last night with a blanket which they weren’t too pleased about but I’m sure in time we will get to them tame. I already feel so rewarded and just wanted to share this with you!

Awww thank you! I can’t wait to get them tame, which I understand will take time. I’m amazed how quickly they have settled as I read it can take months!

Their Grandad is making them a run so I’m lookIng forward to floor time (indoor for now). I’ve already learned so much and we’re looking forward to bonding with them :clap:

Do you know that not all piggies like cuddles?
My Keziah hates cuddles and lap time rarely lasts more than a few seconds, however, she will sit beside me on the floor for petting.

I did read that they don’t all like cuddles and I have an idea which one that might be! (Heidi). I’ll give it a good go to see if I can get her to enjoy her cuddles. I think she will enjoy eating on my lap more and Twilight will like some affection and play. I’m really excited for them. They’re a lovely pair, and seem to get on really well together.
 
Great work-you really did so well. It's no wonder your new babies are so happy in their new home! I am still fairly new with guinea pigs, did NOT research near as well as you did (although my special babies seem to be teaching me and tolerating my bumbles lol. Good piggies :-)) and am so, so happy I have been learning and have the consequences of some now very happy babies. I saw a difference in them all 100% from the first horrible cages and food, etc I gave them to what I gave to them and how we've handled them after finding this invaluable forum and learning. It's been 6 months since our first, have added since then and every day they give us more. They surprise me and entertain me with lots of smiles, no joking.

Sounds like your piggie slave happy adventure is just beginning and going toward the same heartfelt love and joy everyone gets here. Congratulations! More pis are always really appreciated here; love to see those cute furry babies!
 
Thank you @fanniephina. It’s always good to have a little reassurance that you’re getting things right! Ive learned so much from this forum and it’s really helped to give me the confidence that needed as a 1st time owner!
 
The forum has helped me a lot and I’m not a first time owner.
I’m sure my girls are benefiting from the forum too.

It’s also great to have somewhere to show off piggy pics and be excited about our piggies without people thinking we’re weird
 
There’s so much to know about guinea pigs! This forum is brilliant for advice!

Yes I’m already getting weird looks from people! Haha! So I will come on here to share my piggy journey with you all 😊 xx
 
Just to update piggies have been with us two weeks now and I’ve been making progress with them.

For the first time today they both (seperatly) snugged up in a towel and closed their eyes and purred! Such a lovely feeling knowing that they’re content 💕 xx

Piggle doesnt like cuddles much at all, especially from daddy and she usually bites him until he puts her down! Theo cant get enough cuddles, he's very snuggly and gives lots of guinea pig kisses. Puggle doesnt mind a cuddle but she likes to be held against my face or chest rather than sit on my lap. Very different personalities!

We've only had our girls for about 5 weeks now and I'm a first time mummy too, for the first 2-3 days they just hid in their house and would only come out to eat when we left the room, it's amazing how quickly they settle in though, all it took for mine was for me to hand feed them veggies and we became best friends from there! Mine love cuddles, Margot likes to be up on my shoulder nuzzling my ear, Mabel likes to just curl up in your lap and be stroked all the way down her back, neither of like being picked up though and will scarper when they know I'm going to pick them up, but once they're down on my lap they're very happy to get into their positions and chill, so don't be put off if yours never seem like they want to be picked up, I've learnt from this forum that it's completely normal :nod:
 
My lot hate being picked up so I have trained them (with some degree of success) to go into a hidey to be picked up. Velvet darts for one as soon as I appear and say "In you go then Velvet" the other 4 I suspect just hide in them cos a big scaaaaaaaary Hooman is coming! :lol!:
