Junior Guinea Pig
Well I have had my guinea pigs for a week and 2days now. They are settling in to they're forever home nicely. We adopted our guinea pigs from a rescue center witch I would definitely recommend as there are so many unwanted piggies out there that are in need of a forever home..
When I got ours a week ago for our 2 children who didn't meet them till they had been here for 4days. I was looking on the internet for tips on how to settle them and picking them up but I told to look at this guinea pig forum and I am so glad I did I asked 2 questions.
1st settling them in.
2nd picking them up.
The advice I was given on here was amazing I was told to leave them get used to their new home as there is a lot of different things in their new home that wasn't in their old one like smells sounds and different humans and as they are prey animals I needed to build some trust with them witch I did by sitting next to the cage with the front open talking to them for the least 1hr the most 2hrs that included daily cleaning and water change and food after 2 days of that I moved on to offering veggie treats from my hand which they took off me then I started sttoking their nose. When my children finally got to meet them they wern't happy that only I could feed and stroke them bit they understood why it had to be done that way as I wanted the pigs to trust me and then eventually trust them so after a day of the kids sitting talking to them I let them try offering some veggie treats witch they took and today a week later they actually both let me stroke them fully from head to bum. Anybody looking for or got new piggies please ask gor advice on here as I am so greatfull for the advice I got and now I have 2 piggies that have settled great into our family and seem happy..If anyone wants tips on how I done all the hard work just ask and I will explain how I done it
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice I am so greatfull as now we havd some happy pigs.
