Hi all. My 2 boys live inside and we have built an outside run for them. They’ve been having short periods outdoors and are gaining confidence. I want them to spread the day out today as I’m painting indoors. What do they need ? The run is on grass and I’ve been putttong water, hideouts, pellets outside. Do they need to be able to get off the grass? They live on fleece indoors so was considering putting a bit outside on the grass? And do they need hay also? They’re used to eating grass now as I bring some in for them even before they started spending time outside. Just wAnt to make sure I get it right. Thanks in advance x

Can you put a cardboard box in and cut out two entrances. Cover the run the an old sheet so they get plenty of shade if it’s very sunny and provide water x

Does your run have a cover? If not your piggies could be become prey to cats or foxes, etc.

My run has a cover and then I also put an old sheet on top of this to keep the run cool.

My piggies have cardboard boxes to hide in and sometimes things (tunnel, etc.) out of their cage to keep them entertained. If they are going to be out on the grass for more than an hour i always put out some hay and water.

You may find the above link helpful. Mine have wooden boxes of hay, water, stools to sit under. They have blankets or seat pads (these don't flap in any breeze) over the runs and parasols to keep the sun off them as well as the shade from the hedge. I don't put them out if it's very hot we wait until the evening to give them an hour of fun! The new wooden boxes we have now don't have a base so they are standing on the lids of plastic storage boxes which are lined with newspaper and hay.IMG_0983.webp
