Severe Bloat! Help

my guineapig is 4 years old and she suddenly puffed up twice her size. There is one exotic vet in the country a 5 hour drive away but the roads are closed. Regular vet gave her asprin and Vitamin B?! I don't know what to do. Please please tell me what medicine I can give her?

There are no piggie-specific medications here. I have to buy the medicine from a regular pharmacy but my dad can write a prescription so it doesnt have to be an over the counter medicine.

I massaged her belly a bit and she seemed to be a bit relieved and ate a little but very very little and absolutely refuses to be force fed ugh

Can you get an appointment at the exotic vet? The car journey will not be a problem as the "vibrations" of the journey may actually help a bit.

Massaging her belly is good,. I have heard of forum members using a massage cushion - or the handle of an electric toothbrush .

We will need a health and illness guru to come online to advise if any medications can help.

Hi there. Keep massaging her tummy , if u have a vibration mat, car seat or even electric toothbrush try massaging her with that if its gas bloat.
If you have nothing else then
Pop her on top of the washing machine in a box &put it on spin,make sure she's secure &can't fall off. Stay with her to reassure &comfort her holding on to the box.

If u can get hold of any gripe water (from the supermarket baby aisle) this will help break up &disperse any air bubbles.
Some people have used children's infacol-but this is likely to make one big painful pocket of gas that will be harder to shift.

A gut stimulant may be needed such as emiprid to keep her gut going &prevent gut stasis which will make her bloat worse.

If u can give her painkillers such as metacam this will also help her.

If it is liquid bloat (she sounds all squishy like a hot water bottle) she will need diuretics such as frusemide to get rid of the build up of liquid. But will need to be kept well hydrated-syringe feed water slowly.

Try &cut out any vegetables for the time being &just feed hay &nuggets for bloat.

It may be a blockage in her digestive system so a vet visit would be better. Or at least to telephone them &ask for advice.
Could they email u a prescription &cc it to the pharmacy? (so that your dad wouldn't need to prescribe in case that complicates things).

Bloat is very difficult to treat &severe episodes can be life threatening

With the above. If you can speak to a vet or get her seen by a vet that's the best thing. If you can't or while you are waiting then gently massage/ vibrate to help move gas. Give gripe water (for babies) to help shift gas. Cut out all veg and grass. Hay and pellets only. Pain relief if you have some or have permission to give some. Syringe feed water and recovery food or mushed up pellets to keep the gut stimulated. Ultimately she will need something like metclorporamide and Zantac prescribed by a vet in the right dosage for her to help stimulate the guts.
Do you know what has brought this on? One of my piggies used to get bloat after grass time so we had to limit her time on grass. Another got it after broccoli, cauliflower or celery so we had to cut those out. Or does she have some other problem you are aware of.
Good luck. Those of us who have dealt with bloat know how suddenly it can come on and how hard it can be to treat.
