Hello
A month ago I bought two female gps for my children. A few days ago a baby appeared in the hutch. Baby is gorgeous and mum is fine feeding the baby and it is running about but I don’t know the sex. Can anyone help? I am hoping it is a girl so I can keep her with the other two. The mum was obviously already pregnant when we got her. Photo attached

Hi and welcome

Unfortunately, you have got a nice little textbook boy. He IS a little stunner!

Please double-check the gender yourself by looking how your mother's slit looks on the inside with how your baby's slit looks before you separate at 3 weeks of age. Never rely only on the judgment of others. Please check the gender of the companion to make sure that you really have two girls although impregnation for a ca. 10 weeks pregnancy must happened at the shop or the supply breeder and not in your home.

As to possible solutions:
You can either find him a boar friend that he can live with when he leaves the sows at a time when babies are most dependent on guidance from their elders or you can consider having him living in an adjoining cage to mother and auntie with interaction through the bars to not break the bond until he is old enough for a neutering operation and has finished his obligatory 6 weeks post-op safety wait (I have a surprise baby from a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post-op boar; not one of mine).
You still have time to consider and research our rescue access as an older boar companion would be better for your
baby or research for good vets in your reach if you prefer the neutering route. Both ways work and both have been successfully implemented by other forum members in your situation.

If you are stuck for space, you can consider keeping bonded boars above the sows so their pheromones don't reach them. You can complain to the pet shop for selling you pregnant sows (you have basically been sold damaged ware) and claim support towards a second cage. Don't be fobbed off with hamster cage and if they insist on one, ask for a cash recompensation towards a good-sized cage. Boars need all the space they can get once your baby is going through the teenage months and his testicles start descending from 4-14 months of age!

All the best!

Many thanks for your helpful reply, I will read all the links you have posted. He is really cute, I had a feeling he was a boy, but will recheck him when he a couple of weeks old. I got him from a lady via an online site, they all seemed well looked after but I think she wasn’t really an expert herself, I am happy to have two sets of piggies so will keep him:)

Do you have an already bonded pair of boars? Adding a baby may not work; please abort asap if the boys start squabbling amongst themselves or if things turn sour when the youngster hits the teenage months. Let the boys meet the baby boy through the bar/mesh well beforehand to ensure better acceptance if you want to try that or pair him up with a rescue boar of his own who can be his 'daddy boar' initially.
