Hi All,
This is my 1st post on here and this is also my first time having guinea pigs :).
I have what i hope are 2 boars but I'm beginning to have doubts on this and was wondering how i can find out the sex myself.
The reason why I'm having these doubts is one of my boys (Wallace) is eating constantly and seems to be putting on a bit of weight and is constantly getting chased and humped by the other one (Humf).
So I'm beginning to worry that Wallace may infact be a sow and pregnant :... Hope someone can help me.Thanks

The same thing happened to me, I got Mabelle and Sasha from a petshop, thought everything was dandy, Mabelle was just a bit stroppy and more dominant than Sasha. Then I twigged it, Mabelle was a boy grrrr

Have a look at this http://www.guinealynx.info/sexing_pups.html. Another thing you can do is take some pics and post them on here, people will be able to offer their opinion - but this will just be their opinion. The other option is take them in to a cavy vet for peace of mind.

Just a thought.... Where did you get them from? If it was a reputable rescue, I shouldn't think you'd have a problem as they should be good at sexing piggies. If it was a pet shop or a local person who's pigs had babies for example, I would think there would be more chance of mis sexing.

I forgot to ask their age as well, so here is the link if they aren't babies http://www.guinealynx.info/sexing.html

It is possible that they've been mis-sexed but it's also possible that they are both males, as boars still can mount and try to hump eachother! (My 2 boars definitely did although it was pretty shortlived)

I'm not an expert but I think that, if they are both male, then it could perhaps be a dominance thing, especially when they hit adolescence. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable can advise you further but closeup pics would also help (although as azura correctly pointed out, there'd be no guarantees!)

Welcome to the forum. :)

I have to agree with the above posts, see if you can work anything out from the links given and if you're unsure, someone may know of a good, reliable vet near you.

Have to say, I love your pigs names, Humf is a regular fixture here and Wallace is the favourite! :))

thank you to everyone that replied, they are nearly a year old and i think to be certain i will take them to the vets :)
It took me ages to find a name that was just right and as my 2yr old loves Humf i thought it was ideal lol
