Hi, Our guinea pigs recently had pups. We have 6 and I am finding it really hard to tell which are boys and which are girls. Any advice very welcome. Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome

I wasn't around for advice yesterday due to ongoing health issues.

P and F are definitely boys. For the others, I need crisper pictures and please a glimpse into the slit for more gender specific signs.

Now that you know you have boys, you can feel for the tiny penis shaft right under the skin as a secondary confirmation. Sows don't have little uncooked rice corns under the skin.
You can find a picture with a nice arrow for where to feel in this link here: Sexing Babies (with pictures)

I stand to be corrected, B and S look like boys to me, H and T look like girls, rule of thumb is boys bits look like an i, whereas girls bits look like a Y. Whereabouts in Chichester are you? I spent 7 hard months there as a teenager in 1986! 😱😱😱

Hi

B is still a boy, S looks more like a boy to me but I would want you to feel for the penis shaft just above the button round button which sits over a straight slit like the lower case letter 'i' for absolute confimation. I prefer to see three different gender markers but we cannot do the hands-on clincher ourselves.

Please feel one of the confirmed boys and and one of the confirmed girls first for the absence and presence of a tiny penis shaft and then feel S again. There should be a penis shaft.

With the crisp pictures, H and T are definitely sows with no visible slit going into the body, a peaked knob that is not round and that is nestled inside a groove shaped like a 'Y'.

PS: Thank you for your wishes. I am stuck with my illness permanently, so I am just continuing on here around it as best as I can.

Thank you so much so P, F, B boys. H and T girls. S I need to feel to confirm.
Phew! I had thought P F and B boys. H and T girls. S is the one I keep changing my mind!
Thanks again for your advice. Really helpful.x

Central Chichester. Grew up in Bracklesham.
Thank you. Same as what I thought. S I keep changing my mind though!

I spent 7 months at Roussillon barracks opposite the Old House At Home pub.

S is more likely to turn out a boy but I don't have a picture of the inside of the slit. Just going by the outside is only one marker. Genitalia (like human ones) can actually vary a lot more than textbook images suggest.

However, if you try the feeling test with another sibling of each gender first, S is going to feel like one of them - there is either a penis shaft or not. Then you will know for sure. ;)
