Hi all.
I have been looking to adopt a male piggy as a companion for my male piggy Isiah who is about 4 months old. There are no rescue centres in Oxford at the moment that have piggies for adoption. I have however found a lady who bought a female guinea pig for her daughter for xmas and a month later found 3 extra baby piggies. One if which was a male. She said that the other piggies bully him so she needs to rehome him. I want to go and get him for Isiah but I am worried that Isiah will bully him too. How can I be sure that they will get on with each other. I have asked her if I can visit at the weekend with Isiah to see how they get on, but I'm not sure if that will be enough.
What does everyone else think about me getting him. Or should I leave this one?
My biggest worry about getting a new piggy is if they dont get on - I do not have the space for two cages.

As you suggested, take him to meet the little boar and see how they get on? Isiah will need a friend if he is a lone piggy.

If he's younger than your boy that would be good. See if you can take yours on a 'playdate' to see how they get on.

That way you can watch them for a while and see how they interact. There's bound to be a bit of rumbling tho as boys do...

Someone on here said once you can tell quite quickly is a boar will accept a new one so it's worth a shot. just take it slow and steady on the introduction so they don't get stressed out. It would be good for your little one to have a friend though.

I am so excited - Isiah and me are going to visit the new piggy tomorrow. I really hope they get on. I bet I wont be able to sleep tonight.

That is so exciting, Hayley! If you do decide to bring the little pal home for Isiah, just remember to give it time. It's like two humans who have only briefly met moving in together, they need plenty of time to get to know each other and go through the ritual of deciding who is top piggy. My two have been together 3 months now, and Oscar still rumblestrutts at the boss pig, Elliot. That baby likes to push his luck! Very good luck with it all and I really, really hope you come away with a new little fur baby to cherish and love x)

Isiah is a lovely name, btw!

I called him that because he had an ear infection as a baby before I got him and it left him with a wonky head - my dad said to call him Isiah because one 'eyes higher' than the other
:p
