Sharkey stopped eating 5 weeks ago. Vet his molar were a bit long and sharp so got them sorted and was feeding supreme recovery for the next 2 weeks. It took him a long time to get eating normally, but did return to his normal self and was eating normally. The odd day he did seem a bit funny but we though he was all ok, until he stopped eating again this weekend. Took him to the vet and they had a look at his teeth, but didn't really know what was wrong with (the usual vet was on holiday) He got 3 injections- baytril, metoclopramide and a pain killer. THat everning I checked on him to give him a feed and he was bubbling at his mouth. Rushed to vets who said it could be a reaction to injections, but shouldn't be because hes had them all before. Watched him closely that night and he stopped dribbling.
Next morning he was dribbling again so took to vet who had a look in his mouth and did pretty much nothing!

We just don't know whats wrong with him. We are giving him baytril twice a day and trying to feed him as much water and recovery as possible.

He seems like he wants to eat, bites into something and then seems to change his mind. He isn't even eating Hay now, but he does nibble apple sticks so can think it is his teeth.

He now has diarrhea I think as his poos are very soft and keep getting squashed.

Is there anything anyone can think of. The Vets have been useless, the usual good vet is back next week but I think he also lacks an extensive knowledge of GPs. His brother George is fine. He is 2 years old. If it could be an infections is 1 weeks worth of baytril 2.5ml x2 daily enough to sort him. I feel so sorry for him *** he looks so sad and there is nothing I can do. Plus I start a new job in 2 weeks and have been advised that 'it will not be 9-5' so really want him sorted before that.

Anyone with any knowledge? I'm not anywhere near CCT.

The vet sounds usless. There could be a few problems and i would recommend another vet asap. My pig sam had a root infection which the vet missed, the teeth could have been filled to far down or something else entirely. Perhaps some one else can offer more advice but another (better) vet is a must. Good luck

It is most probably a dental problem.
Whereabouts are you?
The daily dose of 2.5% Oral Baytril is 0.4ml twice daily.

2.5ml twice daily, as you quoted, is just over six times the recommended dose.
What dose are you giving him?

I meant 2.5%. we were giving him 0.25ml twice daily but stopped last night when he got diarrhea.
I'm in hull. The vet that Is good is back next week. He took a little bit of lettuce and came out for a second piece but still isn't back to normal. Would it e dental if he isn't drinking water- he seems to be eatin apple sicks as well

Hi where in Hull are you? What vet do you use? I use Kingston vets they are pretty good. Have you got any probiotic cuz baytril can kill the friendly bacteria in his tummy n give him runny poop. Keep giving baytril but then give some probiotic 1 hour later.

I'm on Victoria dock. I take the
to haven vets. The have a lot of foreign locums but the usual guy I back to
tomorow. He has eaten some fresh veg today an has been munching on his Timothy hay quite a bit but still giving h his feed. Yeah he has been getting the pro c probiotic to make sure the baytril isn't doing him any harm. Does anyone know why he would get fully better and thm just stop again? Would his teeth cause this he did seem fine. What about gut infections, or something like that -would that causes these symptoms. One thing that I did leave out was that he travells with me to lancashire on the weekends- would this effect him?

Some dental problems do require regular treatment.
The travelling itself should not affect him. Not sure what effect Lancashire may have.
