Hi
My piggy ran earlier when my OH sneezed and covered herself in sawdust. When I got her out to dust her off I noticed she had a tiny piece in her eyeball! We carefully used a wet flannel to wipe her eye and flushed it with a bit of water and managed to then get it into the corner to remove with my finger
I’m now worried though that we’ll have caused more harm and like injured or scratched her eye or something! I’ve wiped my piggies eyes over before to get rid of little crusty bits but never had to deal with something in the eye
Will she be ok!

Said piggy currently enjoying her Christmas present- cuddle cup. Eye in question doesn’t seem irritated

Hi

Keep an eye on the eye. If the surface is scratched, it can ulcerate (produce infected gunk). In this case you may need to see a vet for antibiotic eye drops.

What I would recommend is that you try to get hold of some plain tear gel from a pharmacy today if possible so you can apply that and hopefully prevent an infection or slow it down in view of the upcoming holidays.

Hi
How long would it take to see any signs of an injury eg the infected gunk? Will wander and see if the pharmacy is open today!

It can take one to several days. The eye gel (apply three times a day) can actually help to prevent it from happening if you are lucky but it should help see you through the coming two days - the worst time of the year for seeing a vet.

The extra hydration from the tear gel provides an ideal healing environment. Applied promptly, it can really make a difference with any deterioration or even prevent it if there is very little damage. It's one of the very few fdirst aid things that is worth stocking at home.

My pharmacist had no gel! I do have optrex moisturising eye drops in at home for my own irritated eyes would these work if need be?

Update! Three days later and her eye still looks normal- no gunk, no cloudiness
I think she is okay, going to carry on keeping an eye for a couple days but no signs of any injuries as of yet x
