I use these are they are more absorbant than hay which I was using. I cant get any other than these two beddings.

I noticed after I put my pigs back in the clean cage george started to eat the shavings, is this healty ? ok ? should I go back to hay ?

If you are using shavings, this shouln't be instead of hay. Hay should be scattered on top. They will nibble shavings too as they are wood. A word of caution with shavings though, if you are usisg them, they must be top quality, dust extracted, not perfumed. If they still contain any dust, they can cause respiratory probs. xx
 
I use shavings but just a small layer with straw on top and put the hay in racks to keep it nice!! the straw is the compressed chopped stuff so its soft!
 
Hi. I just noticed that you are in Ireland. We are a bit more limited on bedding here but over a year ago I found allbed and I really like it. Its an equine bedding and its totally dust free. Its also made by recycling wood and compostable. I didn't see the respiratory issues when I used shavings and hay but some of my piggys developed dry skin and I blamed the shavings. I switched to fleece and vet bed but couldn't cope with the continual washing. On searching the internet for equine beddings I came across Allbed and when I contacted them found out they were looking for people with small pets to test out allbed as they wanted to develop allpet. I've been using it ever since (and if you ever see any fliers for allpet, although not sure they went into wide production of it as I stick to using the allbed, the guinea pig inside the flyer is my Holly).

Its also very ecomonical - approx £6 for 22kg bag. Not sure what it is in €.

The Best Bedding

I find Carefresh bedding really good and it is recommend by vets!.

In Ireland you can find it in Wackers Pet store Naas Road for 10 euro! or in Petland Bray for 6.95euro.
