Shimmer and Saffron

Saffron just ate some hay whilst I stood and chatted to her.

Saffron is so scared that she either freezes or bullets into the nearest small space.

I meant Shimmer is so scared that she either freezes, etc!

There has been some lively chases and noises which Rusty dog barks about but doesn't do anything else.

Saffron had a long drink of water but was spooked when she saw me watching.

I try not to stare at them and I mimic guinea pigs washing!

Shimmer is very keen on being under the ikea bed. Bless her.

I am thrilled and just can't get enough of them. I chat away to them and have cleaned out their hay trays.

It seems to be Shimmer that enthusiastically chases Saffron.

They love the soft timothy hay that I have and have tucked into the dried mix herb forage with enthusiasm. I even gave them a teeny bit of banana peel each.

Shimmer puts her nose towards food now even when I am standing by the cage. She doesn't come out into the open but it is very early days.

They are so sweet and still so small.

Apparently they were living in a group of six so I really really hope that the chasing will calm down and one or other of them will be the boss soon.

Saffron's agouti eye liner is gorgeous and her little black feet. She's a mini capybara They are both so beautiful and adorable

Maybe they’d just like a large hay pile instead of the different hay trays? My boys love a large pile of hay to play in.

Just gave them a bit of grass each and scattered some dried coriander stalks in their hay trays and in their fleece lined area.

Then I stood and watched them eating and basked in the munching noises!

That’s great. I bet they love the larger hay area. Do you have trays to minimise hay on the fleece?

Hay trays are to give separate areas for them to forage in. Also I line them with newspaper and that makes them super easy to clean out.

I have a hay tray end (over half the cage) and a smooth absorbent liner then a little fleecy end where they have the ikea dolls bed and absorbent fleece pads.

Yes the hay trays are helpful to minimise the hay spread.
