Shimmer and Saffron

Lots of chasing and squeaking last night. Shimmer keeps tooth chattering and chases Shetti out from under the plastic pound shop stools. Shetti just freezes or runs away.

I am nervous about putting them into the cage ... I don't feel that they are settled enough for that although more space may be just what they need.

Shetti occasionally does a gentle brrrr noise. Does all this sound positive for the bond? I am a bit unsure.

Still a fair bit of chasing and some little noises from Shetti.

Shimmer is starting to chew on the cage. I reckon she is pretty fed up with the small space and the small intruder. I hope I am wrong.

How long could it take for them to become friends? I remember her Shimmer and Saffron (rip) were a bit unsettled and a bit chasey for a week or two. Think I will read back and see how their bond went. It was a bit different because they were living together before they came to me.

It took at least nine days for them to be more settled and even then Shimmer would often rumblestrut at Saffron!

Hopefully Shetti will remain mellow. Her breeder did say that she seemed to be quite a submissive guinea pig.

I have made a space in my bedroom for them to live all year round. I am so so so happy.

Pic 1 is their temporary bonding cage.

Goodness me. Shimmer joined Shetti and they stayed in the same end together. Shetti is a lot more vocal. Not squeaks but little chunterings. Some cross noises and some communication noises.

They have been eating grass near to each other. Awwww.

This cage move has really improved things. Shetti has run into the green end where Shimmer is. They are both in there now. This is so so so so good.

Shim shim has still chased Shetti a bit but Shetti doesn't flee and squeal now, she races away but soon comes out of hiding and even seeks Shimmer out.

Yes it is such a relief after all the chasing and squeaking in the smaller bonding cage.

Shetti is a little prettykins! Shimmer is like a big bear next to her. Not for long though. Babies grow so fast.

Shetti is so brave eating grass in the open.

All is good apart from the odd chase and occasional ousting of Shetti from which ever hiding place she is in! I added a litter tray with wood shavings and timothy hay in each of the fleece covered cage ends and also a stick bridge in each with a fleece mat.

I wonder if she will get more feisty as she gets older.

I watched the tutorial from Squeak dreams about how she built her first diy cage. It looks doable, especially if I can find a local builders merchants who can cut the board to size.
Our closest B&Q cut furniture board for us.
It might be worth investing.

Shetti often follows Shimmer. Shimmer will let her hang out most of the time and occasionally chases her away!

Shetti isn't deterred and will soon go over to Shimmer and hang out with her.

Unlike Saffron (rip) Shetti does not steal the food out of Shimmer's mouth!

Shimmer still spends a lot of time rumblestrutting around the cage. She looks most impressive. Shetti responds with little cross noises. There is still a fair amount of chasing but overall I am happy with how things are going.
