Hi there all. I'm heading to the vet tomorrow with 1 of my girls, but wondered if any1 else has had this problem. Shimo, who we have had about 4 years has suddenly started doing tiny little poops. The usual shape but really really tiny, and quite dark. Her friend Roko is pooing as normal. Nothing has changed in their diet etc, and they are both on exactly the same foodstuffs. Shimo seems fine in herself, and is still as vocal as ever; letting me know exactly what she wants and when she wants it! She is eating slightly less than normal but not overly so, and is still 1st at it. I'm at a loss and wonder whether she has some sort of infection, or could it be a sign of something more sinister? Am so worried about her. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Sorry I can't really help. If she's eating less then smaller poos are no surprise but you obviously think it's more than that. I'm no expert but wonder if probiotics might perhaps be a good idea? Hope it's something minor which can easily be rectified - fingers crossed the Vet can put your mind at ease and get Shimo back on the right track quickly, so good luck for tomorrow.

Tiny poos usually indicate that she isn't eating enough. That can have very different reasons and is often not so easy to find out. Your observations may help the vet. Here is a good link that lists a range od causes: http://www.guinealynx.info/anorexia.html

Try to watch your girl when she is eating - is she trying to eat, but has problems with chewing and is eating more slowly? How much is she drinking?

It might also be useful to weigh her daily in order to monitor her food intake.

I hope that your vet can find out more. make sure that he has a look at her back teeth - molars or fungal mouth infections can be often at the root of eating problems and should not be overlooked.

How did you get on at the vets?

I have to agree that some alteration in food intake, if not foods themselves, may be to blame. Has she been eating grass recently? I've noticed my own pigs poops have become very slightly smaller and darker since allowing them access to fresh grass and dried grasses.

There can be other possible causes to much smaller poops than normal, but food intake tends to impact on poop shape/size a lot.

Shimos little poops!

Just an update on the little tiny poops Shimo suddenly started doing. The vet couldn't find anything wrong and thought it was probably due to a bit more grass than usual (?) Anyhow, they seem to be back to normal size again and as usual she's eating like a little horse! Will keep an eye on it though just in case.:)

I agree....*chants* "What do we want?...A pooooo sticky! When do we want it?....Now!" (well actually, whenever you can fit it in, to be fair....pretty please!)

Laura, looks like you're our nominated poo champion! How does it feel to be our indispensible poo oracle? :(|)

Btw Glad Shimo got the all clear from the Vet and is back to normal now. Sorry to hijack your thread with my poo protest! :)

Noooooooooo, what are you getting me into here! I hoover up thousands of poops every day (15 pigs poop rather a lot), I don't need to write all about it! However..........since demand is so, er, demanding, I'll see what I can do. Only thing is, to do this properly, I need pictures. Will go back to the original thread and ask there.

I am glad Shimos smaller poops weren't a problem, shanmissycasscass, I agree with your vets thoughts that more grass may have contributed to it. :)
