Hi, my piggie Strawberry is shivering, and i'm not sure why. She was making a chirping sound, like a little bird, so I got her out of her cage to check that she was ok. She was shivering, which i've never felt her do before. :...I held her for a while but she didn't stop. I put her back in her cage (about 10 minutes ago) and I just picked her up again and she's not shivering anymore. I don't know if i should be worried? I don't think she can be cold as she doesn't feel it, and they are inside and it's warm. She's not a nervous pig either. Also, the other day she sort of shuddered, like a dog does when it's going to be sick, but stopped when I said her name. Then she was fine, and started running around again. I'm worried she might be ill, if anyone can shed light on the situation it would be much appreciated!

Sorry to hear about the worry with your piggy. If she is housed indoors then I guess she shouldn't be cold. Was she frightened by something perhaps?

Is she eating, drinking and passing poos ok? Any other change in behaviour for her?

They do sometimes 'shiver' when they make the purring sound... I'm not sure why though! Like a machine-gun noise and a shiver?

If she's not cold, I wouldn't worry - any more since?

Just a thought ... she is definitely a "she" is she? Boars grumble, shake and strut about from time to time.

It doesn't sound like purring, it's relly quite like a chick cheeping, strange as it sounds! And when I was holding her she wasn't making any noise, just shaking/ shivering. Hopefuly i'm just worying over nothing. They're going to the vets on Wednesday to have their nails cut (i'm too scared i'll hurt them")) so i'll get him to check her out.
Thanks so much for replying!

She seems to be eating fine, the water bottle hasn't gone down as much as it normally would so i'm watching to see whether she's drinking. Thanks so much to both of you for replying!

Oh oh!

Oh oh i found the noise, I searched the forum for 'cheeping' and read a thread about guinea pigs 'singing', there was a link to a video on youtube of a guinea doing the exact same noise!

Some of mine make that noise, its wonderful! good to get her checked out but sounds like she is fine x

Well the piggies went to the vets yesterday to have their nails clipped and a general check up, she said that everything was fine, phew!

i was going to say this as i read your first post, you are very lucky to hear your piggy do this, not many owners do - i have owned them for nearly 2 decades and never heard it!

I dont believe its anything to worry about, just keep an eye on her, but generally all sounds ok.

Hi, I have only heard one fof my guinea pigs do this and it is when they are frightened, maybe that is why your guinea was shaking as well, cos you said it stopped once you had been holding it briefly. Sharon.
