Hi, sorry for not being on in a while but I have a problem. About ten minutes ago my friend called me in tears saying that her dog had gotten hold of her piggies and ran around the house with him. She said there's no bleeding and the pig is still alive but is very lifeless and is lying down. I told her it could be shock and the vet (on the phone to her mum) said the same. They live outdoors so I told her to bring them indoors and cover the cage over with a blanket. I also told her to leave them alone and check up on them every half hour or so. She's very new to pigs too. Is there anything I can tell her to do until the morning when she can go to the vet? I've told her what to do if he picks up but what about for now? Thanks x

I'd take the pig to an emergency vet - it may be just shock, but the dog's jaws may have caused actual damage. The vet could at least prescribe some pain relief and assess the situation.

Shock can kill guinea pigs; there may also be internal injuries. Please ask your friend to contact an out-of-hours vet service (google or get the contact number from a regular vet's answering machine). It was good to bring them indoors and to keep them quiet and warm, but not hot.

She's been on the phone to the vet who said there wasn't much they could do. Just now got a message saying he's died. Thanks for the quick response guys really appreciated it x
