Hello, I'm a new to the forum and this is my first post 8:) Yesterday I took custody of a white and tan piggy called Sugar from a girl trying to give her away in school. She spent yesterday sat on my lap while I managed to get a cage and things delivered and I've got all that set up but at the moment I'm trying to do the Tesco shop and I want to know what veg to get her?

Can she have spring greens, Flat lettuce and Kale? I know she can have oranges and apple so I have some of those and some carrots. What else do I need to get?

Well welcome to the forum and I'm sure you'll have lots of love and fun times with Sugar. We hope to see pigtures soon! :)
First of all, your lovely piggie needs LOTS of hay. That's the main part of their diet, and make sure you have a high quality piggie nugget food :)
Cabbage and cucumber are popular choices. I know my piggies love their cabbage! You can also feed small amounts of bell pepper, broccoli and tomato.
Oranges and apple are to be given in small doses, they're more like treats than anything - maybe a small amount once a week.

You can use this thread http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42 to get some more advice on what is good and what should be avoided :)

Thank you^) I read elsewhere on the forum that cabbage gives piggys wind and tummy cramp:<> and elsewhere that any green leafy veg is good. I'm confused lol.

I've got a big bag of hay as my 4 gerbils like it to play in and I bought some supreme science selection food. She seems to like it so far but I noticed the main ingredient is alfalfa grass and I've read that it makes them fat! even more confused now lol.

Cabbage is OK for guineas, not too much but it is popular. It's lettuce that is not very good for them, that definitely makes for poorly piggies!
Alfafa is OK for younger piggies - how old is Sugar? x

She is around 1 and a half we think. I've been reading through the food reviews on here and the more I read the more confused i'm getting :{

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It's understandable that the more you read about piggy food the more confusing it can be. I would suggest a common sense aproach to all you read. There are lots of things that you will find on the good lists only , so it might be an idea to stick with them untill you become more familliar with other foods. You will find that certain items are allways listed as no-no's, so treat them as such. If you find that some items are in both lists, it possibly means that they are all right as a treat but not as a regular adition to their diet. If you are at all in doubt, don't feed it to them. As mentioned before, hay (not straw) is their staple diet and should never be without a supply of hay available to eat, it also keeps their teeth worn down (something else for you to read up on).
