hopefully I'll pass the homecheck which should take place this week. I need to compile a shopping list for everything I will need for the new piggies.

newspaper (already got lots of_
hay
pellets (I feed my rabbit exel mix do they do similar for pigs or can they have the same one ?)
fresh food (got lots of !)
water bottle
food bowl
knawing blocks

anything else ?

thanks

Lucy

hideys/pigloos-one per pig is advisable so they can have there own space
hay rack
i find 3 bowls good one for water one for pellets and one for veg, i find it best to have a water bottle and bowl in case of the water bottle leaking.

no they cannot have the same pellets as rabbits as rabbits produce vit C and guinea pigs dont so they need a specific GP food with lots of Vit C in it,someone can recommend a good food there as I'm in oz.

thanks i did think this but thought I had better check !

The piggy version of your rabbit pellet brand is OK! But they need their own gp pellets.

If you can put a small ramekin or tiny dish under your bottle, you won't have problems with drips. The fuller the bottle, the less likely to drip. I prefer the bigger bottles, because the small ones are more likely to leak.

You could try putting a brick under the water bottle, this absorbs drips and also helps with nails. Also, as you are rescuing piggies, you could ask the rescue what food they are having with them, and carry on with the same, just making change in dry food gradual if you wish to change it. x

I find that the drip dish has the advantage of doubling up as a drinking bowl. Every now and then, one of my piggies has a sip from it. But a brick is anther good idea.

I use a probiotic in their water - you can get it from pet shops or on line it's not expensive. I wasn't sure mine would drink it as it makes the water green but they do still drink it as much as before I was using it.

OH and the excell pellets are great as they have lots of protected vitamin c in them. The pets at home brand do too.

No need for the gnawing blocks - the usually get ignored, and hay does a far better job at encouraging healthy teeth!

You don't need to buy these, but save up your old toilet roll tubes. They're versatile toys. :)

What are you bedding the pigs on?

Don't forget something to clean you cage with. I use a dustpan and brush to get the bedding out, (bought a cheap value one for about 69p solely for piggies for hygine reasons).

Also you need to decide what to use as a cleaning product. I use the disinfectant spray from Wilkinsons and kitchen roll but other people use vinegar and water and some people by Virkon which you dilute yourself which you can buy off the internet.

You can save money on toys also by saving any brown paper bags you get and filling with hay, piggies love them and they are free!
