Hi all

Going to visit SSPCA on Saturday to ask about rehoming two piggies. Plan is, if we feel we are capable of it, to revisit again after Christmas to hopefully introduce ourselves to piggies who will want to come home with us.

So, before all this happens, I want to check that we haven't forgotten anything silly! I want to also ask if we should be taking some kind of travel carrier - or will they provide us with something suitable?

So far, we have bought:

Ferplast cage (hopefully going to upgrade to C&C once we've had them for some time, and we know what we're doing!)

Hay (came free with cage, but have also bought one pack extra), will buy more later

Woodshavings

Pack of food (not sure what type, but again it came free with cage). Will buy more nearer the time

Water bottle

Woodlands thing (sticks joined together, sorry don't know what it's called)

Boredom breaker

Nail clippers, brush

Bowl

Going to try and get a couple of those snuggle blanket things also.

Have I forgotten anything vital?

They aren't "vital" but most people feed nuggets/biscuits, as well as hay. You might also like to try fleece bedding? Much cheaper than disposable bedding, and healthier for the piggies.

Oh, and a hay rack with a tray below it will help clean-outs as they tend to poop/wee where they eat.

I do not recommend shavings. They are such a mess and no good for piggies. Many are allergic to them. I use fleece. It is nice and cosy for piggies. I put down a layer of towels and then two layers of fleece.

If you have a carrier I think its worth taking it ..... if not ... a cardboard box or something ? You can also buy cardboard carriers...... long term though a proper carrier is handy to have. The SSPCA will probably have something though (but I dont know for sure).

Good luck - hope it all goes well :)
