Hello! I will be getting two girl guinea pigs soon, and I was wondering if your guinea pigs share a carrier, or if they have two separate ones? If they do share, would a cat-size carrier work? Our vet is just a few minutes away so they wouldn't be in it for too long, no traveling or anything. Thank you so much!

Hello,
when I go to see the vet with one of my guinea pig, I put her in a cat-size carrier.
When I transport more than one guinea pig, they share the carrier.

Mine always travel to the vet in pairs for routine things, in a cat carrier. Usually that's best unless you have two who aren't well bonded, or unless one gets very stressed and nips their friend out of fear aggression- after Theo saw the vet nurse to get some tangled fur removed from his little willy he was so upset he bit his favourite wife Puggle on the way home!

They can travel together if they are well bonded. If it’s a new pairing then the limited space up close and personal can be a bit much. It depends really on the distance, the size of the carrier and the bond between the piggies.

I use a plastic cat carrier and have always taken them both together - if can be a bit tight at times tho as they are both quite big but I think mine is on the smaller side carrier wise.. In an emergency i used a plastic storage box!

Bill and Ted always travel together in a cat carrier for short journeys. They do travel long distances to see the vet for dentals, 300 miles each way and on those occasions, they stay in their cage which is secured and behind the driver and passenger seat, not ideal but they could not endure 5 or 6 hours in a cat carrier. It’s a balance, but they are happy and can move around in their own cage and don’t get too hot and not at all stressed, they mostly eat and sleep!

Thank you all so much for your replies! It seems a lot of you let your pigs ride together so I will definitely do that, thank you! (side note, Bill and Ted are officially the best names I've seen for a pair :)))

I put my sow and boar couple in together when only one is seeing the vet, they don't even get along great in the cage, but you should see how much they cuddle up on the way to the vet in the carrier. They are each others rock when they feel threatened

As soon as my two go into the cat carrier from their cage they know its only a few steps away from the vets. They look extremely serious and snuggle up! Well nobody likes visiting the dentist do they!

I used to have mine both share a carrier. Blitzen would get in fine and then stay in...Comet, not so much. Comet would be yelling his head off in the vets and B would just sit in the carrier, quietly munching hay and ignoring the chaos.
