Hi,
I have three guinea pigs but I've never bathed them!
98) 98) 98) 98) ?
i dont know wether I should or not but I would like to ;D ;D
HELP!!

yes, you should bath guineas every month to help prevent skin problems. :)

Some people bath them, some dont! I dont bath mine as often as once a month, just when they seem grubby. I bathed Teddy and Larry yesterday and used a melt and shampoo from www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk. Be careful with water temperature and only a little water, just enough to cover their feet and use a jug or shower head to rinse off. Also dont get water/shampoo in ears or eyes :)

I have never needed to give Shadow a bath, he has never needed it some people here may disagree with me but that's otay ;D also what person said above don;t get shampoo in eyes/ears

I thought Teddy & Larry were pretty clean before I bathed them but they wee in their tube! It is amazing how white and fluffy they look now :)

Our mummy pig loves having her bath, but the younger one absolutely hates it,any tips, she managed to get out of the kitchen sink last time I bathed them

I need my hubby to hold my piggy while I wash or else he jumps out the kitchen sink too.
Try putting a towel down in the sink too for them to stand on so they aren't scrabbling about.

I read on another site about using the filler jug for an iron to pour the water and found that's a great tip.

I didn't put the plug in so he didn't get any more wet than the water used to rinse him. But maybe piggies who like baths will tolerate the plug in and water round their feet.

What I do is put a towel or bath mat in the bottom of the bath, fill up a basin of warm water for rinsing and leave it next to me. I put the plug in the bath but dont put any water in it. They tend to feel more secure that way I have found as you are not plonking them into water!
I then gently wet them with the water from the basin using a jug, shampoo them whilst holding them gently under the belly, then rinse off 3 or 4 times from the jug. This works well for me as if they do manage to run off, they cant go anywhere and dont slip :)

Yes,

By all means, bathe your piggies.

But only if their coats feel greasy or dirty, and then only in mild shampoo (Kitten or puppy shampoo is ideal) otherwise you can strip all the natural oils out of their coats, and leave them with a dry scurfy coat.

I bathe mine when they feel or smell dirty, in the sink in the bathroom and they seem to like the enclosed space as they do not freak out too much, but make sure they are 100% dry before putting them outside again, maybe overnight them in the house to make sure.

Don't forget the males grease glands need extra attention!

Xx

Thanks for the advice, another couple of weeks before their next bath,I think I get more stressed than the piggies,I hate to think of the younger one boing afraid :(

I don;t give my pig a bath first of all i am not sure its a good idea at his age, too much stress on him and I am afraid he could catch a cold that way. My piggy does smell if he has a dirty cage but the only "bath" I give him is cleaning out the cage, he tends to smell like what his cage smells like when he has fresh clean litter he smells good again. Is that weird to anyone? ALSO, i wash his little paws cuz he has a little problem with bumblefoot, a condition which affects guinea pigs, oh btw he does NOT have a wire bottomed cage we tookthat out when we got the cage (my mom and I) I use a gentle, mild antibacterial soap and put some Neosporin cream on his two front paws. So far, I can;t tell any improvement but I don;t do it as often as I should. :( I need to take him back to the vet and get his paws checked again, I think he needs stronger stuff than just cream. ?

Yes I w as worried they might catch a chill or something...and as they are nervous will it scare them real bad :-\
Still I'm sure I will try because It sounds fun and the pics of someones guinea pigs in after bath fluffiness is adorable :smitten:
