I picked up Harvey yesterday he came down from Gretna with Helen. I collected him from Louise's yesterday :) he was very quiet yesterday but he had a very long journey.. I placed him next to Zac ith a divider between them, he really perked up when he saw Zac I was wondering should I try to bond tonight or should I wait a little longer ?
Harvey is quiet today spent a lot of the day snoozing :smitten:

I would wait until you have much longer before you would have to leave them overnight. I always leave them together for the first time in the morning so I can be around to observe their beahviour. I also quarantine any new guineas O0

I agree with Vikki.
Wait until morning and do the whole introduction when you have plenty of time to spend with them.

Hi Karen,

I agree with Vikki, perhaps do it when you have the whole day.

Vikki Harvey is from a rescue would you still quarantine, I was always under the impression that if you got from a rescue then it was ok. Do you follow that procedure with every pig? (Still learning here about what to do for the best with rescue pigs coming in) I have Radley in isolation, seems ok though but you can never be too careful.

Good luck with them Karen. I hope Zac and Harvey will have a lovely friendship! :smitten:

Thank you :) I'll wait until the tomorrow or Monday morning then .. I'm so nervous I hope they bond .

Lousie did you manage to get the 2 warrington piggies okay ? If you ever need a hand with anything let me know I could foster I have room here or I'd be willing to collect piggies or homecheck.

Thanks Karen. That's handy to know! :) It was just one boar from Warrington I have posted him up in the Photo Gallery we are calling him Radley. He'll be here for about 4 weeks before I think about re-homing him. But as Peter said I'll get attached, but we'll see! ;D

I was in the total wrong place in Warrington, for some reason when I came off the M6 I forgot to go on the M62! ;D It ended up being closer to home than I thought (not far from Fiddlers Ferry power station!) I need one of those Sat nav thingys! :D

i would wait for the morning when you have more time to watch them, and to give harvey time to recover from his travelling. hoping all goes well and they have a long happy friendship. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: sending hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* wishing you a happy easter from us in oz and may gods love give you comfort. 0:) 0:) 0:) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks all for the replys :) we are going to leave it until Monday morning, we are decorating at the moment so should be finished by Monday :) I'm off work now for the next weeks (work in school) so I'll be able to keep a close eye on them.

Sounds like a good plan Karen! Can't wait to hear how you get on! :D

Good luck bonding your boars Karen O0

SunshineandTwinkle if the rescue has had the guinea for a long period of time and it has showed no sign of ilness in the last six weeks I would still quarantine for a short period of time as the stress travelling can bring out illnesses which are not always apparent at first.
Also after a long journey I think it is worth giving the guinea time to settle if they are from a highly trusted cavy experienced friend (only three people I know I would do this with) and had recovered from the journey well (we never travel guineas for very long) then I would consider an introduction to another guinea but would never put a new guinea in to either of our sheds as there are far too many guineas that could be affected if the new guinea was carrying anything O0

Most rescuies are great and only ever let fit and healthy guineas leave them after they have been with them for enough time for any underlying problems to be identified and if they have been clear of illness for at least 6 weeks then it is very likely they will have no problems being near other guineas at all.

I am just paranoid about anything getting into the sheds or indoors as we have several youngsters here at the moment -with 35 guineas in the sheds, 4 in isolation hutches outdoors and 9 indoors at present it is so not worth the risk and all it takes is a little patience ;D

Our guineas are not usually re-homed without completing a quarantine here first if they go before quarantine is complete we advise people to keep them seperated until quarantine is completed, (we would only let guineas go to very guinea experienced homes before quarantine is comlpete and make it clear how long they have been wiith us and how much longer they should be kept seperate from other guineas)

It is better to be over cautious where quarantine is concerned especially when you have as many guineas as I do here. The worry, time and vet bils involved if an infectious disease spread through the guineas here would be liable to cause me a lot of sleepless nights! Not worth the risk for a few precautions that are easily taken O0

Hi Vikki,

Thanks for that! Yes I don't want to risk my own 8 pigs. My rescues are upstairs in the spare room. Radley is in the living room as he is a lone pig and I don't want him to be too lonely. :)

Thanks for the advice, as I say it's all knew to me so any help and advice is really appreciated! Well should get to bed, got a pile of ironing tomorrow and won't do it if I am knackered! :D
