My two boars are coming up to 6 months. They are currently on burgess with mint. But burgess has alfalfa in it. In this case should i change foods? (Note oxbow is very expensive on uk and none of my local pet shops stock it)

Burgess is a decent brand of nuggets to feed and as long as your boars don't have a history of bladder stones/issues then it's fine to leave them on it. I feed Burgess excel sparingly, it makes up such a minute portion of their food. I agree with you, the top brand foods are very expensive and it's not always guaranteed that the pigs will eat it.

I switched from Burgess, it's not easy to switch but I always slowly mix in anything new over a course of a few weeks, the slower the better! I wouldn't say Burgess is bad but there are better ones :)

I personally found that they mixed over to Versele Laga (order from zooplus) easier as it's a similar texture to the Burgess, my pigs also have Rosewood (available from pet shops) and JR grainless (zooplus) which are cold pressed so it's a bit different in texture and shape but they are very good as they don't contain wheat :)

I have noticed the majority of the foods regardless of whether they have alfalfa in them all seem to have a calcium level of around 0.8-0.9. The only issue with alfalfa is to do with the calcium but even non alfalfa foods have the same levels of calcium in them? The only one I have seen which is lower is the Oxbow (which can be ordered as click and collect on pets at home) but even that says 0.35 up to 0.8.

As a new owner I am still confused which one is the best to feed. They are currently on science selective which is what they were fed at the rescue, but I also have 2 other non grainless ones which are unopened as not sure whether to switch them.

I’m slowly switching mine over to Grainless so at the moment they get Burgess, Science Selective plus the Science Selective Grainless version.Must admit though they prefer the Burgess!

Hi there, I feed mine science selective atm and am not sure to either leave them on it or change to burgess oregano or selective grainless? What’s people’s opinion please

Out of those ones I'd recommend selective grainless :)
