So I just lost my beloved S'mores after only having her and her friend Oreo for 6 days. We just couldn't save her and had to put her down. My question is should I get a friend for Oreo now that she is all alone or should I let her adjust to being alone?

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry for your loss! What a bummer! You are welcome to post a tribute to S'mores in our Rainbow Bridge section if or whenever it feels right for you.

Here are our detailed tips on how to look after a bereaved guinea pig: Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

How soon you are looking for a new friend, depends on what S'mores has died of and whether Oreo has stopped eating or not. If S'mores has passed away from an infectious, transmittable problem and Oreo is still eating, then it would be good to wait two weeks in order to conduct a quarantine, so Oreo cannot pass anything nasty to any new arrival. If there is no transmission issue, you can look for a new companion as soon as Oreo is coming out of deep mourning. It Oreo is not eating at all, then she needs a companion asap (acute pining) in order to help save her life.
Importance Of Quarantine

Sadly there are no recommended guinea pig rescues in your state, so we cannot send you there to adopt a guaranteed healthy and properly sexed guinea pig for a safe ride. :(

You may find the information in our new owner's guide helpful; it also contains bonding links. There is more information at the top of our various Care sections, but you are always welcome to ask any questions you may have.
