I have had my first and only guinea pig for a few weeks now(I know I'm supposed to get two because they're herd animals and all that..... but I didn't) and I am wondering if he needs a companion. He is a male and he doesn't SEEM lonely or anything, he's usually out and about running around and doing his guinea pig thang, but I feel like he still should have a companion. The only thing I am worried about is that he is pretty well a full grown male and if I got another one, due to my remote location, could only be a small, not-yet mature male and I am not sure if they will get along because I dont want to get two who will fight all the time. Any suggestions?

Generally it is best if he can find a friend of the same sex. He probably doesn't appear lonely but you may find he changes with another piggy. My Rosie lost her friend and we decided to get another 3 from rescue for her- the change in her was amazing.

Where about are you based? There are rescues across the UK if that is where you are so we could help point you in the right direction, if you are able to get to a rescue who do boar dating that would enable your boy to meet new potential friends and see how he gets along with them.

No I am in rural northwestern Ontario, there's really nothing around me and the only place is a pet store located in the nearest city, Thunder Bay. I'm just worried I will bring a friend home and they wont get along.

if you read advice on here and introduce them properly you should be okay with a younger one. If it doesn.t work you could always have them next to each other so they would still interact but couldn't hurt each other.
