Sugary items such as carrots and fruit should only be given in very small quantities and only very occasionally as treats. The high sugar content of these items and acidity of them (tomatoes included in that) are not good for their health and the acidity can cause cheilitis (mouth sores)
From memory, both carrot and banana (banana peel!) are OK to give to guinea pigs BUT they're all high in sugar so need to be given in small quantities as occasional treats rather than dietary staples.
I agree- they are safe to feed as occasional treats (like us hoomans may eat pizza or cake) but herbs are a much healthier treat food and usually preferred by piggies. Thanks @piggieminder for linking in the diet guide!
Mine get carrots occasionally and mashed banana only if a weight boost is needed.
They think a handful of coriander or a chunk of cucumber is a real treat
