hey guys! i really considered giving them away for a while but i got back on my feet and took good care of my girls again. though, pepper was hiding more than usual and i brushed it off as nothing. (maybe she was stressed or scared?) i got a terrible feeling at 4 in the morning, i ran out to their cage and pepper tried to crawl into my lap but collapsed. i scooped her up and cuddled her and she slowly took her last breath. i snuggled her body for hours. i’m absolutely heartbroken. i have no idea what happened the day before she was perfectly fine. i feel like it’s all my fault, maybe just maybe i could’ve rushed her to the vet and she would still be here with me. i miss her dearly. i still have a remaining piggie, but she seems to be doing better on her own. my mom said that she doesn’t want to get anymore and i don’t know if i can handle more piggies passing away. i want my little chai to have the best life and now wondering if i should give her up? let me know your thoughts.

here is my beautiful pepper:

I’m so sorry you lost your girl. The what-ifs is all part of the grieving. You have to remember that piggies can go downhill really fast and are super at hiding illnesses. You did the best you could which is all any piggy can ask for.

With regards your lone sow. If your mum is really opposed to getting her a friend then unfortunately it would be kinder to surrender her so she can be paired up with another. Is your mum not wanting to get more because you’d continue the cycle?

I don’t know about the US. But here some rescues will let you foster a companion. Then once your piggy passes away, you surrender the foster back to the rescue. Perhaps this is something you could explore and see if it’s an option.

If you decided to go for the first option the. Please make sure you surrender her to a reputable rescue. I have linked to US recommended rescues below. All the best making your decision. Talk through both options with your mum and see.
