Hi fellow piggie owners,

I bought a new pig (Cola) recently as a companion for my adult guinea pig (Oreo). Cola is about 2 months old. I have been keeping her in a dog carrier and introduce the two pigs yesterday on the floor and it well went.

I understand that after introducing them, it is not advisable to separate them. My dilemma right now is that if I put Cola into the cage with Oreo, she can't eat pellets and alfalfa hay meant for her.

So does that mean that I have to separate them until Cola is 6 months old and reintroduce them? The dog carrier that Cola is in is place beside the cage.

Thanks.

Why cant she eat the pellets all my youngsters have had the normal pellets? Just leave off the alfalfa hay for a while and give them timothy or meadow, it won't help the bond keep putting them together and then seperating them. As far as i'm aware normal pellets are fine alfafa hays not good to give all the time anyway so like i said just change the kind you give :)

Hello, I don't have any advice, but wish you lot's of happy times with your new guinea:)

Yeah just let them get to know each other and if the older pig accepts the younger one then don't seperate them again. Don't worry too much about baby food. I put Sprout in as a baby and he took fine to the timothy hay and normal pellets :)

Hi there. Are you certain both piggies are of the same sex? The problem is often pet shops do not know how to tell and get this wrong. If you have already introduced them and they are both of the same sex then you need to clean out the cage before placing them both in it. They can both eat the same pellets. The best pellets are actually not alphaha based but timothy hay based. I use Burgess excell pellets and think they are excellent.Good luck with bonding them.

Oh so it's fine to put them both together. Hehe then I shall do that then.

Piggyfan: yes they are both females and I bought Cola from the same breeder whom I got Oreo from. So no worries about the gender. I introduced them on the floor and they were fine.. Just the normal butt sniffing, chasing and nudging, other than that, nothing else. And yes I clean up the cage thoroughly before putting them together.

I can post now if you want to see them.. Haha shall post it under introduction :)

You can make a thread in stories and photos and show them if you like.
