I’m cleaning my Guinea pigs cage so they’re housed a temporary play pen that is smaller. I have two ~1.5 year old boars, Duke and Prince. I was just checking on them and looked away for a moment, and then heard Duke squeal, run away, and start chattering his teeth loudly. Prince meanwhile was just sat there with a few strands of Dukes hair, probably yanked out from his behind in his mouth and was just chewing it unbothered. They’re back to normal behaviour and are showing no problematic signs, but I’m worried since it probably caused Duke pain and may not have been good for their relationship. Should I separate them temporarily or just keep a close watch?

Prince is the dominant one in their pairing btw, and I feel like I’m still learning to tolerate dominance behaviour rather than automatically assume that it’s harmful.

I would not separate for that but I would be watching them to make sure they remain ok together.
If they have a full fight and wounds are causes then they would need to be separated.

Thanks for the reply. They’re doing fine now. It was weird behaviour I guess. I think Prince was bored
