Should talk in pounds or grams or both?

I see most people on this sight talk in grams (metric). I`m older than most and only understand imperial weights (pounds and ounces) as a true measure of weight in my hands.

I know its illegal to sell produce marked only in pounds in the UK but its ok if its combined with grams.

Why can`t we do the same here -> use both measurements - at least until we `oldies` die off.

There are plenty of easy to use online metric - imperial converters that you can freely use to change the metric system into a system you will understand better. I don't think it's very fair to ask an entire community to speak in a way you will understand when you can easily convert it for your own convenience.

I know I personally have no concept of the weights and measures of the Imperial system since I've been brought up with the metric system. I don't mind using a converter for my own convenience to understand American-based information sites such as Guinea Lynx.

Use what you are comfortable with in your threads.
And use the converter when you need help to figure out the rest.

I am a lbs and ozs chick too however since coming here I've adapted to both. I use both if I can. :)

i use pounds and ounce and when i go into a butchers i always say pound of bacon or cheese

Babies are in lbs and ounces, couldn't eat a whole on though. drool

I'm Swiss, so I'm still struggling with imperial, having spent my whole life with metric measurements. The first few years here in Britain were constant mental arithmetics!

But I can appreciate the problem - it's as irritating for those who grew up with imperial measures. The fence is the same on the other side, I guess!

I prefer pounds and ounces, prefer feet and inches, miles over km, but have no clue about yards or furlongs or gallons etc. We do mix it up here, we'd not normally advise someone to get a cage at least 121 cm by 60cm! :) :)
Its not a big deal though with t'internet giving us every kind of programme we need, to ensure our brains don't hurt too much :)

I can work in cm but my dad can't! He says to me how long is 30cm! :(|)

I work with pounds and ounces. I have a very basic grasp of grams - I know a few landmarks like 2lb is around 900g, 3lb is about 1400g and so on but can't work anything out in my head!

I'm struggling with the other way round - the British pound being only 450g (instead of a metric pound of 500g), and an ounce at 28g...

My kitchen scales do both - so I can do recipes either way!

I am clocking up the years too! But I work in both depending what it is. I weight my piggies in pounds and ounces, then convert to grams. Not really sure why I do that. xx

I go between grams and pounds and also cm and inches :(|) Confuses my mum when I go beween both. At school we learnt in cm but I've always found inches easier!
