I posted a thread the other week about this but now I'm getting concerned :( Basically, Eliza keeps on biting Connie's ear and is leaving jagged edges in her ear :( I really don't no why she is doing this so does anyone have any advise? I am just wondering if they should be separated but when we take one away, they cry like mad for each other :( Another problem is that we have a real lack of space hence why they live in our outbuilding in a hutch. I really don't no what to do as they have lived happily together for the past year. Do you think that Eliza is the dominant one and could things get worse if they stay together? If I have to separate them, I'm scared that I'll have to rehome Eliza as we had Connie first which I really don't want to do :0 Any advise appreciated.

Hi Claire, how old are your piggies and how long have they lived together?

Do they get on okay most of the time? I have only ever had boars and they sometimes fall out, but usually get over it quite quickly!

One of my boys is like that, attacks the other one for no reason. I know what it is like, a real worry as you can't watch them 24 hours a day. It's odd because they have obviously been fine together for quite a long time!

just a thought. Is Eliza the pig who is not well? Could connie be attacking her for that reason.
My boys attacked Spice because he was not well, just before he departed for the rainbow bridge for that reason.

Well, Eliza has occasionally nipped her ear before but it has never became jagged :( It has been worse for the last few days. Connie has had this on going problem since the end of November :(

In the wild, do guinea pigs not drive out other members of their group who are ill? Could it be possible that this is what's going on? I don't know how you would fix it if so, but it might explain why it's happening.

Possibly Eliza is trying to be top dog as she knows Connie is ill.

Unless there is blood being drawn/actual scabs from past cuts don't separate. It could make things worse for both pigs being alone suddenly

Hi Claire,
Can't you get another cage and part it in the middle so there both in the same cage but at differnet ends of it and they still see each other.

Just a thought, i hope someone can help you more, i've never had anything like this befor so I'm a bit useless, sorry

I haven't got a big enough hutch to split it up and I can't bring them inside in a big indoor cage due to lack of space :(
