I work from home and produce quite a lot of shredded paper from my office. It's mainly laser printed stuff that I no longer need, and I shred for confidentiality.

I tried using the shredded paper as guinea pig bedding instead of hay/straw (on top of their woodshavings) but they little beasts sat and systematically ate their way through the whole lot ? I haven't done it again as I'm not sure the laser ink (and the paper itself for that matter) are good for them.

What do you think?

We had this problem with our first two boys so we had to scrap the idea of shredded paper and just kept them on wood shavings, as we didnt think it was doing them any good ::)

I think you have to be careful using white paper... because of the bleach in it that makes the paper white.... may be wrong! 98) 98)

Newpaper is fine though O0

I have recently stared using shredded paper as i can get it from work.

I use wood shavings, then a layer of newspaper then some shereded paper. On top of this i add lots of hay.

I havent seen the pigs eating the shredded paper. They always have plenty of hay and think they just prefer that. I think the shreddeded paper helps keep them warmer in the winter.

Is the shredded paper bedding that you can buy for pets any good?

When I picked up my two new pigs this morning I was given a bag of it, as this was what they were bedded on before. I don't want to use it without checking.

I just use lots of layers of newspaper underneath the wood shavings and hay. They have never tried chewing it or anything!

I use shredded paper and have done for the past 10 years and have never had a problem with mine eating it.
I use small chip paper in the bottom and long shred in their bedding areas.
