Hello, much to our surprise the two female Abyssinian guinea pigs we got last spring produced a litter of 4 last week. Sadly one of them this afternoon has acquired a rather unfortunate set of symptoms. It is, for lack of a better word foaming around the mouth, its face and jaw are wet, it seems to be almost chewing on something of having dry heaves. Its quiet and has separated itself from the rest of the litter and its mother. I want to say it is shaking a little as well, but baby guineas are so jumpy already, it is hard to tell. Thank you for any advise you have.

The only advice I can give here is to get the baby to a vet NOW! Call your vet's number, they should provide a recorded message with the details for your local out of hours service.
Best of luck.

I agree with @Merrypigs Sanctuary, that baby needs to see a vet NOW! Your vet’s out of hours phone message will have details of the nearest emergency vet and their contact details. Good luck; I hope your baby recovers!

Agree with above answers. Please let us know how you go on - hope the vet can help.

Have you separated the adults from each other yet? If you haven't, your girl will very likely be pregnant again, as sows come into season within hours of giving birth.

Sunday night, no vet available. We have separated him/her? from the rest of the pack. Seemed happy to have its own cozy home. We'll see what the night brings. Thanks for the well-wishes.

The night will bring bad news. Emergency vets are open on sundays i think

If you ring your normal vets, they should have a message telling you what the telephone number is for your nearest emergency vets. It sounds unlikely that the baby will survive until morning from what you said.

Couldn’t agree with the posts.
Vets and separation is required.

All emergency vets are open on Sundays in the UK, its why they can deal with emergencies 🙂 If you list your location we can help you to find a local one. You could try VetsNow, that's who we use!

Please see an out of hours vet as a life or death emergency!
you can get either a number from your regular vet's answering machine or google for services in your area.

Sounds like pneumonia to me. But i dont know if a new born can get that?

Did you manage to get to a vet last night? How is the little one doing now?
