hi guys,
My guinea pig has this bald patch on her back and I'm not quite sure what to do about it, she has had bald patched before however they just disappeared.
I've also found something on the grass after they've been in their run for a little while, not quite sure what it is but it has bits of their food in it so I'm not sure what to do?
I have two guinea pigs so I'm not sure which one its coming from either?
I'm thinking of taking them to the vet just to have a check up and make sure they are ok
its also pretty hot at the moment as i live in australia so it could be something to do with the heat but I'm making sure to keep them nice and cool.
Both seem to be pretty happy, their both eating, drinking and playing so neither of them seem to be sick

I don't know what that is on the grass.

I agree a vet check would be a good idea - in case it's mites

Looks like the start of a fungal infection on your pig, as PiggyOwner said a trip to the vet would be wise as it could well spread if left untreated!

The things on the grass look like food pellet's that have got wet and expanded

If you're not sure a trip to the vet is always advisable. I agree with @gizzy about the food pellets in the grass.

I agree that your piggy should see a vet. It could be mites or a fungal infection. If this has come on suddenly then this can be an indicator of stress in your piggy either due to a change in circumstances or perhaps some illness that they are hiding. Best to get the vet to check her over and get proper diagnosis and treatment.

Agree with what's said above. It looks like a the right site for being self inflicted from biting/scratching. Last time any of mine had this it was a mite infestation but you need to visit a vet to rule out other skin conditions as well otherwise home treating could make matters worse

Please have your guinea pig vet checked for mange mites. In that case, a full course of three applications at the brand specific interval will hopefully take care of it.

It looks like sodden pellets with some cracked seeds to me? Like they have been out in the rain and a bird had a go at the seeds? (Seeds should not be part of a guinea pigs diet). It may even have been brought there by a larger thieving bird to pick through its haul where it wouldn't be disrupted. Just remove it and do not worry about it.
