Hi all,

I have a 6 month old guinea pig who was recently peeing blood, it would go from one day to being pure blood to just pink to normal. I figured it was bladder stones and took him to the vet. The vet looked him over and said he looked healthy otherwise and said to put him on antibiotics for a infection. He finished the antibiotics and was fine for a bit then continued peeing blood again so The vet sent away his pee and it was all fine.My guinea is on meta cam currently for pain relief because he was showing signs of discomfort when peeing and pooping. Since yesterday he’s been extremely quiet and I’ve seen him eat some hay but not drink.his poops are tear shaped now. I tried syringing him what but he denies it. I don’t knowwhat’s wrong with him:(

Hello

Please get in contact again with the vet.

To rule out stones they would need an xray this can be done under a whiff of gas, it may be in this case they need a longer course of anti biotics. sulfatrim is excellent for UTI's and the metacam he is on is good as it will help with any pain and reduce inflammation

How long was it since they were on antibiotics?

Thankyou for getting back to me!
He was on antibiotics for a week and ended them a week and a half ago now. He seemed to get better off of them and his pee is clear now. But he is acting extremely sluggish and is sleeping on me and doesn’t seem to be drinking

I was thinking this, x Ray is needed to properly rule out bladder stone

Try and get piggy an appointment for tomorrow or Wednesday. And mention the x ray when you call. Good luck.
