I have a sick guinea pig, I just started him on some extra baytrill I had. But his nose sounds bad, when he breathes at time his nose is very loud. He's sneezing and just started gagging.

What else can I do for him? Should I change is bedding more to keep it dry while he's sick? Would a vaporizer help him? Would it make him worse?

Any tips or tricks you guys know would be helpful.

Sounds pretty worrisome. Did your vet advise the baytril? Did they offer some sort of contingency plan if the symptoms worsen? This type advice is hard to provide via the internet as it is best done by a professional. I know you have posted before about the problems your piggie has been having. At this point, I highly doubt it is the condition of the cage and more likely something that hasn't completely healed up. I fully understand that vets are an expense, but if it were me, I would not hesitate to get him seen. If you can't afford to, there may be rescues in your area that might be able to assist. Just a thought. Good luck to you and your little one. :)

I checked into all the vets, schools, programs, and help oranizations and there's nothing in my area.

He really needs to see a vet. I read your last threads about your piggy and it sounds to me like whatever he has been fighting off hasn't been cleared up by treatment. He's had this one for at least a week and it hasn't gone away... You need to know exactly what this is you're dealing with.

It sounds like a URI (upper respitory infection) from what you've said but obviously I'm no expert and he really needs to see a vet. URIs can quickly turn into pneumonia and can prove fatal if he isn't getting the treatment he needs. To fight off a particularly bad URI you can be looking at 2 weeks worth of medication in the worst cases; so you really need to get your little man to the vets. The fact that he has had ongoing problems suggests that each infection has not been properly treated - just suppressed; which indicates to me that whatever treatment you've been using for him is not effective. As was suggested in one of your other threads he may need a different antibiotic to help him fight the bug he's got.

That said, this could also be something different and blind treating your pig is not the way to go. You need to find out definitively what this is and unfortunately getting proper tests done might be the only way to do it.

He needs to be taken to a vet pronto! Use wonga to borrow money if you have to!!
