my new girl Wailani was discovered to have pneumonia despite no outward symptoms (diagnosed on X-ray after weeks of trying to figure her out) she is on the mend but still getting syringe feeding and cisapride as she wasn’t eating well and had a bout of gi stasis. Now I am down with the flu, it’s been five days and still no improvement for me! Anyone ever passed any thing to their guinea pig like this? I’m so worried!

Hiya. So sorry to hear you both poorly, how awful. I’m not experienced enough to know if this could be passed on to your piggy I’m afraid. But here’s hoping you both feel better soon x

It will be fine. It's highly unlikely you will pass anything on to your piggy however the usual recommendation is to minimise handling to reduce any risk as far as possible. Handle when necessary and not for extra cuddles which is a shame as when we feel so pants an extra cuddle is always lovely

Sorry that you and piggy are unwell. Flu is really miserable so take as good care of yourself as you are taking of Wailani

Yup I'm afraid at the moment because I've got a virus and I'm worried about passing it on to the piglets. One of them has been sneezing sporadically. He started before I got my symptoms. Their weight is holding steady and they're eating fine and I phoned the vet. Going in Monday for check up and he didn't seem too worried over the phone but said if they stopped eating or lost weight to phone back asap and get them in.

I'm sorry you're both poorly.
It's not your fault, you're trying your best. :)

Well more bad news! My vet said to put the pigs together for the first time this weekend...small tiffs nothing big...tonight there is some pink in the bedding...I suspect another uti for Winona! We can’t catch an break :mal:

Several years ago my astranged oh had a realy bad flu type viral infecton , she came home drunk, and fell asleep on the couch in my pig room and despite my best efforts I was not able to get her to move! So she had to be left in the pig room all night!
Within 36 hours l had lost 4 to a respetory infecton !
John my vet autopsied 1 of the dead pigs and his opinion the cause was viral chest infection!

Oh no! That is so terrible so sorry. Everyone hanging in there on my end...knock wood...Winona looks better today too mostly no blood in the urine so vet is having me watch her closely for now.

Sending you both healing vibes and hugs
