some of his hair falls out if that helps? Like it feels like he has a bump then a chunk of hair falls out, but nothing so much to make him gain bald patches, and he always attacks one area. The top middle of his back. Will he be okay till Wednesday so the vet can check him then? Or should I call Paul, he doesn't like vets so I feel as if I'm going behind his back >.<! But he's becoming more active so I think he's picking up a bit. He isn't so bothered about being stroked now. Does't vibrator or chatter.
Oh I checked through is fur and his skin seems normal, pink, no flakes, he didn't mind me touching him or pulling the fur back. I thought I'd give him a bath in the gorgeous guinea stuff I have today.

I can't comment, I think if you can't get him to vets till wednesday. I would maybe ask Paul's opinion regardless of if or not he like vets. I hardly think he would rather the pig be untreatedM

Hi Beautifulmess,

Sorry that Africa has been unwell for so long.

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but I'm wondering what you meant when you said the Vet "cleaned him out". Did they do something to his chest?

As DLPL said, it'd definitely be a good idea to give Africa a probiotic while he's on Baytril, as that is particularly harsh on piggies' tums and, as he's already so skinny, it'd be a shame if an upset tum affected his appetite (as it sometimes can). Also, you may find that a probiotic helps his impaction, so it's a good idea all round! You can buy this Pro-C one from Pets at Home or buy different ones from the Vet/online.

I agree with others that it sounds like he might have a skin problem. Perhaps this info helps:

It can be very serious for mites to go untreated so I'd definitely look into the possibility of this. I'm surprised the Vet didn't notice his scabs - are they still there?

It definitely sounds like he's got a few things going on there. Hope you get the help you need to find out what's wrong so you can hopefully get him better soon x

This is typical of mites - the bump (bit like a small pimple), hair loss and location. Worth treating him for mites, 2-3 ivermectin doses, 7-14 days apart.

Oh I see. That would make sense. I just asked because she mentioned it after saying he was wheezy, so I assumed it was related to his chest. Just me being daft!

I'll try that probiotic then. Should I take him back to the vets on Tuesday or something for the mites thing or can I treat it? If so where would I get anything? I'm busy all of Monday but I could bring Africa round Tuesday day or evening clairelove. x

He's lost fur on his leg now, looks like a chicken leg. Vets 4 Pets is open Saturdays without extra charges :) what a good vets. Anyhow, I'm trying to get us in today for an appointment.

Clairelove, message me when you can xx
