Hi everyone,

As some of you may have known, a few days ago I noticed a few relatively large scabs on my little Jitterbug, he also had very flaky skin in his ear and around his body :( I took him to our local vet yesterday and he has been put on antibiotics for the scabs as one of them was just beginning to turn into an abscess. Both Jitterbug and Quinton have been also treated for mites. I did not totally understand why, as neither of them have been scratching excessively or show any discomfort at all really. I suppose it is better to be safe than sorry. I also washed and cleaned everything just to be safe.

My question is, where could the scabs on Jitterbug have come from? They were housed with a pregnant female and large male before I got them so he could have got some scabs then, but the more recent ones...could it be Quinton fighting with him? I haven't heard them fight once but these wounds can't just appear out of no where. And if it is Quinton causing this, should I separate them?

Sorry for such a long thread. Any help would be so much appreciated :)

If he has mites then scratching can cause sore skin and scabs quite quickly. Observe them for any signs of bullying but I would blame the mites.

Thankyou for your advice piggyme234 :)

Thing is, I am with them a lot of the time as they are in my bedroom. I spend a lot of time in here and I see no excessive scratching or irritation. I haven't seen him scratch once. If it was mites then would he not be scratching a lot? ?/ And wouldn't his brother have caught them by now if it was mites?
