Sick Piggy..again

Hubby is the one who drives. I just passed my driving test last month and I'm not that confident yet haha! 😂 So I just sit at the back with the piggies and feeding them every few hours. We want what's best for our piggies so we don't really mind if we have to travel that far when they are sick.

You are doing everything humanly possible for Cookie. Here’s hoping she soon picks up again.

Hope Cookie is feeling better soon. Sounds like you're doing everything possible to help her. Come on Cookie help mummy and daddy by eating a little bit.
Sending you hugs.xx

Sorry I have missed this thread. Poor Cookie, I do hope things improve soon. Sending healing vibes from me and the herd. 💕

So sorry I missed this thread.
What an awful time you’re having with poor Cookie.
She’s a lucky piggy to have such a caring owner.
I know other forum members have had good results with Manuka honey @PigglePuggle
Hope things improve for you all

Thank you all.. Her wound is healing and a lot smaller now. It still smells a tiny bit but way much better than last week. I don't cringe now every time I give her hugs and kisses! 😂 We stopped giving her zithromax the other day just to see if it's the antibiotic really putting her off food. She's been taking antibiotics for 3 weeks. This morning was the first time that we saw her nibbling pellets again. She also managed to eat quite a few grass. Tomorrow we'll go back to see Simot at Cat & Rabbit and she'll probably have a more thorough flush of the wound again. Fingers cross we can see more improvements by next week. She needs to regain her weight back. She used to be around 1360 grams before this all happened, and now she's just 1115 grams when hubby weighed her this morning. Sierra is the one eating everything now and she has been around 1275-1300 grams! The cheeky girl has been trying to replace Cookie being the heaviest. 😱

Glad to hear that there has been some improvement. Hope it continues. Get well soon Cookie. 🐾

How is Cookie today?
We are still on our way going home from Northampton. Simon did a thorough clean of Cookie's wound and he said it's a lot better. Not much smell at all and it's starting to close and heal, even though the wound is still quite deep. He said to see if her appetite would get back in the following days without the antibiotics. But if we notice there are lumps/abscess coming back, we need to start with the antibiotics again.

We don't know how Simon cleans the wound that very well and quickly coz he finished doing it in 10mins or less, plus also checked her teeth. The wound is all looking pink and no sign of infection. He said he is just more aggressive and rough with it. Being a vet probably is an incentive knowing what the animal's limit when it comes to such things! 😁

Glad to hear that things are improving. Hopefully Cookie will get her appetite back soon. x

Cookie's weight this morning is just 1088g ☹️...I'm thinking we're missing something on why she's not eating. We are feeding her 20ml cc every 3 hrs. She eats fine when she's on our lap or on sofa. But she only nibbles a bit when in their cage. Her wound is healing nicely though. Hubby has stopped all her meds in case it's upsetting her. I really don't know what to do. 😔😔

Sorry to hear Cookie is losing weight. I would check with your vet before stopping meds. If she is in pain this will definitely affect her appetite. So I wouldn't withdraw pain relief meds.
Maybe @furryfriends (TEAS) or @Wiebke can offer some advice.

Simon is so quick and precise from decades of daily practice... He is amazing, isn't he?

Please contact the clinic and do not stop medicating without consultation. I am very sorry about your struggles.

It can sometimes be real detective work to figure out what is going on when there are virtually no useful clues or symptoms that point nicely to a problem. :(

Thanks @Wiebke

Hubby gave her a very small dose of tramadol this morning. I really don't know if she's still in pain or not. It's just so frustrating coz she eats when she is on our lap. She hates being fed but she would take the grass and leaves we handfeed her. Sometimes if we leave her on the sofa she eats there by herself. She won't eat the melons and cucumber though. She would sometimes get a piece but then that's it. If we put her back in the cage, she would follow the other 2 piggies to the point of annoying them coz she keeps on sniffing their bums but she won't eat and would then stay in her box. She would nibble some small amount of grass and hay at times but then would lose interest. I really don't know what to do. 😔

Her poo and pee are fine as well. Obviously, her poop today are small ones since she hasn't eaten much overnight. But the previous days, they are normal and big.

Poor cookie. Have you tried leaving some cc in there in a little bowl for her? Eventually my boy got fed up of syringe feed but liked licking it up himself. Although the other piggies might like it too haha.

I'm so sorry things aren't improving with her eating, you're doing so much for her. I really hope she feels better soon xx and hope you're ok x

Well we changed the way we feed her yesterday. Hubby thinks she has become reliant to syringe feeding even though she hated it. Now, we put her on the sofa and let her eat by herself first. And if she stops eating and starts fussing around, we just put the syringe food in front of her then she will start eating by herself again. And ever since we did it like that, she's been eating more. CC and porridge are just a top up at the moment. We are giving her 10mls of CC (sometimes 5mls) and 5mls of porridge every feeding time now. The rest is just her eating by herself. So far so good. When hubby weighed her this morning, she weighed 1090g. So she managed to maintain her weight! :yahoo:

That's brilliant news! So pleased, keep it up Cookie! :) xx

I've found the same with Pedro, if I give him more than one feed a day he barely eats anything by himself! Even though he's a bit on the skinny side and I'm desperate to fatten him up!
