I had bought a female guinea pig and apparently she was pregnant because this morning my son woke me up to tell me that there were three babies, but one of them had died. In the remaining litter there is a female and a male, the male is doing fine. I am worried about the female pup, she stays away from the mother, the brother and our other female guinea pig. I tried to nudge her to the mother and she fell over on her side and took a moment to get up, when I looked at her one of the eyes is watery. Is there anything that I can do? I am going to call the vet in the morning, but the pet store told me to let nature take its course, the vet can;t do anything. Please help, I can't let her die! My son will be so upset. I told him that he can only keep the girl. Is there anything that I can do? PLEASE HELP, I'll do anything to help her, they are so cute! HELP!

The pup is only a day old, two tops, I forgot to add that in. Please pray for our baby!

Hi and welcome to the forum from us in OZ :)
I'm sorry but i've never experienced having baby piggies :-\ and the rest of the people are now asleep, i'm in Australia so that's why i'm on cause of the time difference.
I would keep trying to get the little one to suckle off the mother, keep the little one warm and offer water by the spoon NOT syringe O0
I know in the pregnancy section there's more advice on there, look at the top of the section when you click on it and you should see about baby piggies :)
Congratulations on the arrival of your mini's and i'm so sorry that you've lost one 0:) 0:)
Are you able to call a vet that might be open 24hours ? Like an emergency vet ? are you in the UK?

No, I live in upstate NY. She is starting to huddle with the others, but I never see her nurse. Maybe when they are hiding in the house? I don't know, but I am worried about the eye. One is clear and shiny and the other is sort of open but has a thin film over it. I am really concerned, even though I was sort of upset that the pet store sold me a pregnant sow, I am not attached to the mini! I have all ready a good family lined up for my male, I do not want them breeding! But I need help, I want the baby to survive, so anyone who has any advice help, I am going to call the vet in the morning.

I would try bathing the eye in preboiled and cooled down LIGHTLY salted water carefully do this with a makeup remover pad or something other than a tissue... wipe from the corner of the eye down you can do this a few times before getting to the vets tomorrow O0
Has the little mini started nibbling hay and veggie ? ? ? they usually do pretty quickly O0
We'll be crossing our paws and thinking of you and the little girl mini :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

welcome from me and the girls in oz, :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: as glynis said bathe the eye, and if she is not suckling perhaps get some milk supplement for the piggy and give her some of this? until the vet opens give the baby some rehydration therapy half level teaspoon of salt and 4 level teaspoons of sugar mixed in a litre of pre boiled water. this will keep her hydrated till you see the vet. good luck am sending hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

I've responded on your other thread about feeding the pup. :)

I can;t tell if she is eating or not, I don't see her. but I don't know what she does when I am not looking. I hope that she makes it. Just waiting for the vet to open.

Can you have the mother on your lap and help the baby find the nipple and nurse? I had to do this for one of mine who was smaller than the others. If the mother doesn't mind, you can nurse the baby and her on your lap.

The eye could just be where it's been poked with a bit of hay, it goes cloudy when it is healing - I had one like this and it got better after drops from the vet.

Really praying for your baby and hoping she pulls through.

so the mother has 2 babies and it sounds like she must be rejecting the little sow so i would take a few minutes every hour or so to let the mum and baby out on your lap to let the baby feed from her O0

I am just really worried about that eye, now the other one is the same and the original one is crusted shut. I can not get her in today or tomorrow, the vet has nothing open. I tried to hold the mother to let the baby nurse, but the baby does not latch on. She has been spoon feeding some water and I put a few pellets in the water to soak and get soft. I pray that the baby makes it. :'(

Really sounds like the little one needs a vet - are there no others near you, can't you take her as an emergency?

Try squeezing a little milk out of the mum's nipple so she can taste it - she really needs to feed - and hopefully she might latch on.

Fingers crossed - sorry I can't be more help, but sending hugs and prayers your way

make the baby latch on - push its nose under and hold it there :) may sound cruel but you have to be cruel to be kind unfortunately ;)

How's the little girl going today love ? ?
We've been saying piggie prayers and keeping our paws crossed for her and the little mother :smitten: :smitten:

how's the little one? :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: hope you've managed to get it suckling :smitten: :smitten:

I got an appointment for her this morning, but when we woke up she was dead. :'( :'( :'(My kids and I are really upset, but the little male is doing fine. My son wants the mom to have more babies, but I don't think that is a good idea, we only had the babies cuz I bought her pregnant and didn't know it. I miss the little mini all ready though :'( :'( :'( :'(

awwww :'( RIP little one 0:) (((HUGS TO YOU AND THE KIDS))) really am so sorry to hear that :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: at least the boy's doing well :smitten:

Not a very good idea to breed from her again especially if shes lost 2 out of 3 from a litter :'( R.I.P little one 0:) :smitten:

so sorry you lost the little one. :'( :'( :'( you did all you could for her, but guess god wanted her back again 0:) 0:) 0:) know she is running free and popcorning in paradise. and that she is watching over you and her mum and brother :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: perhaps you could go to a rescue to get a female for your son as the wee little one slipped away :'( :'( :'( 0:) 0:) 0:) sending you all hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and the girls send :-* :-* :-* RIP sweet little angel. 0:) 0:) 0:)

So sorry RIP Little one 0:)
I hope mother and little son are still doing well
Sending hugs to you and your children I hope you're all ok

No,I am not going to breed her, that was never my intention. Liza was given to us pregnant. It's sort of funny that I didn't know she was pregnant, I commented all the time that was fatter than Mikaylee, our other female. When should the boy be taken out? I don't want more pups, cute as they may be!

I'm so sorry to hear the little girl has gone to the bridge :'( :'( :'(
RIP mini one 0:) 0:) 0:) run free at the bridge, there will be lots of lovely mummy piggies to take care of you :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
((((((((HUGS))))))) and piggie kisses for your greiving mummy and brother and for you all as well :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

baby boys can be sexually active at 3 weeks old and little baby girls at 4 weeks old. so would remove junior at 3 weeks, mum should have had enough of him by now. hoping you get your son a rescue piggy as there are so many that need homes. good luck and sending hugs and cuddles from me and the girls :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-*

I live in upstate NY, where can I get a rescue piggie? And how will I know if two boars will get along? I will get a recue one if I know where to get one, but I have no clue...

perhaps ask your vet, or have you a spca near you or shelters? we in oz don't have rescue places either. but if you find one take your piggy with you and see which one she gets along with. they allow this in the UK so maybe they'll allow it in the USA too. good luck, hope mother and son are doing well. sending you all hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* if there is no rescues or spca ask your vet about a breeder, some one that knows and loves piggies. :smitten:
