My female guinea pig toffee was diagnosed by the vet with a nasty sebaceous cyst (it sprung up very quickly and was about the size of a golf ball). He emptied it, and started her on oral baytril and today was the beginning of her home treatment.
Before we got her to the vet she had lost quite a bit of weight, despite still eating. Now that she is on treatment and her wound is being regularly cleaned out, she should hopefully be on the mend soon enough.
It still hurts her quite a bit when cleaning it out and I am extremely unhappy with causing her pain, even though I know it is necessary and I do it to the best of my ability.
My question is, as she still has a healthy appetite, and is running around without trouble how long until the wound starts showing signs of healing?

The vet said that the cut needs to remain open and uncovered so that we can keep squeezing the junk out every day, which is unpleasent!
Thanks for the concern! =)

Unsure on how long it will take to heal, hopefully soemone with some experience will be around soon to offer advice.

Hope Toffee gets well soon

Bless her, I hope she's better soon.

I imagine it will slowly start drying up as long as it doesn't keep weeping and it doesn't get infected, but if you're keeping it clean then hopefully it won't. Poor girl!

It could take awhile, depends on how big the abscess was and the infection...... this is just from past experience with abscesses (which i HATE!)
I presume they've also told you to pick off the scab so that the wound is open and you can bathe? not pleasant at all, but it really is the best thing to do. If in any doubt go back to vets and ask them to clean......i did this a few times as i wasn't being thorough enough!

HEALING WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKS FOR LITTLE TOFFEE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Yea I was told to keep it open, its staying open pretty well, and bleeding freely when we press a damp washcloth to loosen the scab. There's still a little gunk in it, but its getting smaller every day and shes actually started to put weight on again! Thanks for the healing thoughts, they're working!

Took toffee to the vet for her check up, and he said he was surprised at how well she is doing! He didn't expect her to have recovered so quickly, and that she's put a lot of weight back on!
All of your get well wishes must have worked! Thanks for your help!
