Any advice. Bought a new piggie 4 weeks ago to accompany recently bereaved boar. He was quite young but seemed to be fine. Then he suddenly got weak, stopped eating and looked dreadful. Vet gave antibiotics. I thought he would die. Hand fed him with mushed up pig food. Now he is perky, but very wobbly. After handling will topple over on return to cage, or run in circles. Still not eating well. Is separated from older boar. He is not like a normal young pig. I've had a few.

Sorry your boy is ill.Have you looked at the recommended vets section, I think your best bet would be to see a piggy savvy vet asap x

I'm sorry that you've had such bad luck with your new piggy. Please have him seen as soon as possible by a cavy savvy vet.

Second opinion definitely.Hope you sort him out, everything crossed.

Hi! I agree with the above posters. It can be an inner ear infection, but it can have other causes (neurological, stroke, rabbit e. coli). He will need a thorough investigation and may need a stronger antibiotic or a different cause of treatment. I am sorry for the problems!

What brand, dosage and how long for has he been on the antibiotic? What was that vet treating for?

Please see a piggy savvy vet and continue syringe feeding and watering. We have got a recommended UK vets locator on the top bar, but can provide a link for recommended vet in some other countries if wished. You can help us a lot by adding your country, state/province or UK county to your details, so we can tailor any advice and recommendations to what is really available and relevant where you are straight away. Please click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thank you! We have got members and enquiries from all over the world.
